Here it is. I'm not 100% on which species it is, i have it narrowed down to two or three, but we don't seen enough of these trees out here. i'm sure you east of the mississippiers will find this one easy.

It is one of the snake barks. I am not really sure the difference between davidii and pennsylvanica. I just don't see them enough.

Waldo,
A. pensylvanicum has lobed leaves, davidii doesn't.
Pensylvanicum also doesn't get nearly as large, and not nearly the trunk size of your tree.
Pensylvanicum also needs cool, moist conditions. Would never be a street tree.
FYI!

I had a botany professor in college that had done his PHD work on maple genetics and when I had described the leaf, bark and site characterstics of A. pennsylvanicum to him and asking if he knew what kind of tree it was, her couldn't ID it. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for.

We saw A. pens. in the woods growing up in NE Ohio. Turns out they can only be found in 3 counties in that corner of the state. Striking understory tree and I'll be planting on here this fall.

Someone else can put up a pic.

Ok, this one did not have lobed leaves so i am thinking it is Davidii. I'll look up A. tegmentosum, that sounds like a cool tree. We don't see many of the snakebark maples out here so i have not seen enough to really be good with them yet.

When I did my ISA cert there was a mistake on the id portion!
I even pointed it out to the guy and he was all 'meh'.
Why be accurate in a certification test, huh? Sheesh.
