Trees from a distance

Wow oldoak, you get extra credit on that one. Guess I should've said which tree, huh?
You're up, but I'd appreciate if y'all could tell me how to ID the difference between a Sycamore and a London Plane Tree

Sycamore- Taller, upright, central leader (generally). Sycamore bark loses the large plates for a more regular textured bark at the base when older, they are also generally more white barked. LP will show more green hued bark in the canopy. Sycamore also suffer more from anthracnose, so they leaf out later and show more witches broom effect. Leaves are generally larger with sharper crenation. One has single fruit, the other double (I forget which has which).

Drat---I was going to guess sycamore, but I didn't think the bark looked right--too far away--guess that's why it's "trees from a distance", huh?

I'll go into the office and have one up this afternoon. Tom gave a spot on description for ID. I think th LP has 2 seed balls on one stem but like tom, can't remember. BTW, the Sago looks pretty good, all the ones around here took a beating last winter from the cold.

Sorry Tom, I meant to thank you for that incredible differentiation between Sycamore and London Plane. Well described. I'll be able to distinguish between them much better now.

So, the London Plane has two balls, huh?

oldoak, that Sago looked pretty good, though ours took a beating too. Major frost damage everywhere. I have one Sago in my yard (I used to like them more, now I despise them a little) and it was brown, brown city. But when the new shoots came out of the top I trimmed off all the damaged ones and you'd never know
