Trees from a distance

Treezy, that's a nasty big chunk you're blocking down on your avatar. Sweet gum? Did your boys let it run or did you go for a ride? Cool pic, btw.

For me, on something that size, I'd be more comfortable with a 5/8 stable braid than a 1/2". To each his (OR HER) own i guess...

Ok, found an app for my phone to reduce image size and giving it the first go. I've narrowed this tree down to two possibilities. Maybe y'all can help me figure it out...

Remember, I'm out of town and though we do have these in my area it's rare that i see them in an urban setting.

BTW, the free app is "Reduce Image Size" for Android phones. I highly recommend it for all you photo freaks like me.

That's what i think it is Tom. Bark like a hickory but wrong leaf. Your turn man...

PS took some shots of some dead ones at the college. Looked like they died pretty quick. Think it was EAB?

Here you go... (Sorry, couldn't wait!)

It was actually a three trunk 120' Tuliptree and the rope is 3/4". My ground man is amazing on the ropes so I rarely get the ride that I used to. The funny part was when we took down a large Pignut hickory the next day. I was so used to the Tulip wood that I took some initial pieces a little to big.

Form's not right, but something about is screaming pecan to me.

Tom, I'm up at UVA (Charlottesville, VA) right now so I'm trying to figure out all the trees.

(: Treezy, I've tried the, "Bam!" before...it never works out well for me.

It's like God smites me every time i say it. Anyway, I'm staying out of this round because these pics are too hard to see on my phone...and because Tom picks trees from other countries.

This tree is european, planted in the US rarely, sometimes forms a suckery mass around main tree (when young). Seeds are in large catkins (I thought they were pretty obvious in the pic), and the individual pods look like an elm samara. Tree does not qualify for Affirmative Action grants.

How's that?

-Tom
