We are staying native, remember? ;-)

I'll give my turn up for now to whomever has an interesting pic. No rules other than it needs to be a woody perennial.

Whatever, Jeff. How about Boxelder?

Celtis occidentalis?

I should qualify that. Only "almost weedy" in terms of self seeding. Box Elder might be defined as "completely" weedy

Where's the little cry babies, why aren't they guessing?

Alright, here is one from my cell phone tonight.

very common.

I went to view a big Red Maple removal this evening and saw these two and decided to take a picture for you bastards.

Both #1 and #2 are the same.

Very common, but not native.

I'll mail a $25 check

I was pretty sure it was Taxus when I first saw it, but I wasn't sure of species... I'm not really familiar with media (Jeff's guess), I was leaning more towards baccata.

-Tom

Chamaecyparis or juniperus to me. The leaves look fern like from here. And number two which is totally obscured looks like cedrus atlantica although that wouldn't be native.

Taxus baccata?

That's what I thought it was, just English Yew. Old house, old yews.

I'm checking the others to see if I can rule them out.

Taxus cuspidata is apparently rare except perhaps in arboreta. so not likely that.

I'm don't think it would be a cross variety like, Taxus x media 'Hicksii'. Just a simple farm type house.

It really looks just like any big old English Yew I've seen.

But if anyone can tell the difference in the needles and fruit up close, I can take a picture, on the internet, all the species look very similar up close to me.

Oh, and Taxus chinensis is a good choice for the size too. But big chinensis tends to have big flakey bark and maybe a longer needle too, and this tree did not have this.

I'm quite certain Dan got it.

Dan, PM me your mailing address. Congrats. And good job to anyone that said Yew.

Oh, and thanks for being patient. You guys should have been yelling at me by now; I would have probably.

should we let the new guy go now?

It's Dan's turn since he got it right, so it's up to him.
