The Elm was another thread where Banjo was earnestly trying to ID the tree. This thread is more of a game where you tease people with ridiculous hints.

I actually stole Dwelch's turn (I have a few saved up), so it would be best to wait before you post, since I have already muddied the waters. Scroll back a few posts and you'll find my most recent pic. If you get it, you're up!

okay i am not sure of the hint but maybe a shingle oak? it has the squatty trunk, but cant really see leaf pattern? nice trunk though

okay last try beech, i dont think it is in the family. but the bark does look smooth

The bark DEFINITELY looks like the bark of a Beech. That should be a big clue.

okay there is one other with smooth bark---fraxinus ornus since it is not acer its fraxinus.
