Starlet, scouts honour I got yours on my own. The fruit gave it away.
(And if I knew about the file names I wouldn't keep doing it like the dumbass that I am!)

hey i believe you, i am like you i did not realize that the name from saving it showed up. we live and learn. did any one get your other one yet? if so what was it? i knew the fruit would be a great hint, i do not get to take many pictures but i do have some from reports that i have done. any way dont worry i believe ya.

this tree is small, but i am going to throw out a malus i have tried to think of everything that sounds like something else. this is a good one! especially if tom doesnt know it. i have only been on for a little while and i can tell he gets most of them! hopefully i am not starting a war.

OK, so there are a few clues out there so far:

[ QUOTE ]

No, no, and no. But Boreality is on the right path, so to speak.

[/ QUOTE ]
This was obscure. There were three guesses at the time but Boreality's guess was a native.

[ QUOTE ]
It appears to be opposite branched with possibly compound (3) leaves.

[ QUOTE ]
No and Yes, respectively

[/ QUOTE ]

So that's alternate with compound, 3 leaftets

[ QUOTE ]
Clue:
Genus name is pronounced almost exactly the same as a different unrelated genera.

[/ QUOTE ]
...but starting with different letters.

And finally:
Smells like citrus, tastes like beer.

okay i am really baffled was that yes on compound alternate three leaf, or was it no on alternate . also i have every book out i own, and i am completely befungled. so please list all the right ansers and what are the wrong ones.

Starlet, (and anyone else not watching football...)

Native, alternate branching, compound leaves w/ 3 leaflets,
Genus name is pronounced almost exactly the same as a different unrelated genera...but starting with different letters.
And finally:
Smells like citrus, tastes like beer.

If needed I've got one more clue that will likely give it away.

Hoptree - Ptelea trifoliata?

From the beer clue, also Ptelea kinda sounds like Tilia

If correct I don't have pictures to upload so it would be open.

I just googled that tree and found the picture that was posted.

So that's definitely it, D. Nice job!

I thought that I saw reddish berry type fruits in the top of the crown, but P. trifoliata has a samara type winged seed. I wonder what I'm seeing in the picture?

Hoptree - Ptelea trifoliata?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup, that's the one!

I see something like berries as well - but maybe thats the samaras?!?
Anyway, another reason to stick with your own photos: quality control. Maybe that's not Hop Tree at all!

Who's up?

Here's one for a diversion while Starlet and Dwelch riffle through their old digital images LOL.

(PS - It's the tree in the middle.)

No on the Juglans.

Holly, you got the C. atlantica right, and the P. strobus, but it's actually a fastigiata. The tree way to the left is a Sweetgum, and the two in the middle (the ones in question) are the same.
