Trees from a distance

Wrong. *hint* if you look at the other trees in the background they have no leaves on them. This tree is one of the first to leaf out in spring

Hi Waldo-
How about Hawthorn (Crataegus)?

Regarding Ez's reference to Rose of Sharon it's a Hibiscus syriacus - it has a hollyhock-like flower much like the Malvas of which these two share the same family- Malvaceae.

-Diane-

it still looks like some kind of diciduous needle tree to me.

so I'm suprized you didn't say Larix spp was correct, especially since you said it comes out early now. Larix decidua?

the bark color isn't right for this, but I'll try Metasequoia glyptostroboides, since you guys seem to be repeating species anyway.

X, I already guessed Metasequoia.

And Diane, both Hawthorn and Rose of Sharon are late leafers over here, so I doubt it's either one of those.

Is it some kind of elm? It is just wild enough looking to be a weird little Valley Forge.

-Tom

you're on the cusp there Tom, the larix spp. has been guessed, but there is one more deciduous tree in the pineaceae family. It looks very similar to the Larix.
