Tree Work

All these trees over the fence were roped out like this. It all went well. 2 lines to keep it steady and 1 to help it along.

Why were all the trees removed?

It looks like you used the tree on the left in the second pic as the "crane" tree. It looks like the tree was a Y and you removed the opposite leg of the Y. This is sidewalk engineering of course...but having that lead left in the tree and used as a back guy for the rigging point would have made a stronger "crane" Another possiblity would have been to tie off the top and then had a down anchor either to the base of the tree or another solid anchor.

Let's see if the attachment works...

I set my climbibg line and started removal on the way up. Just started butt-hitching. There is a cable in there, which did not loosen much after head came out. Sucked the leads together with a sling then unwrapped the deadend of cable.

I hear your points Tom. The idea was to strip the "crane tree" to the point so all we have to do is make 1 cut to pop that head out and drop the trunk. No other anchor to back tie was needed. Tree was healthy and anchor point was very strong. Hardly any movement on tree. Remember too that we did have other lines for control and weight distribution. Also we were using 1/2in. line for this. That line would break way before the top of the tree.

The trees were coming out for a pool.

This is how my daughter looks when she sees some of these pics.

We needed to "take out" this section of fence to make room for trunk. ( notch was a little off, then the bossman showed up and started pulling towards fence as well). He's the bossman that disappears for couple of hours then shows up and starts grabbing ropes and waving saws around like crazy. We have to tell him to leave alot of times.

Any way the guy had extra fence around. The ground guys broke 2 getting them out of their holes.

Here is the one lead. There are drainage and septic pipes where the yellow is. We tried to block up the pipe with good results. Only the fence got hurt.

Sometimes you need to break some eggs to make an omlet.

blah blah

It seems that i am missing the hover device on that trunk? How did you get it so horizontal airborne? Must be an ideal way to get a part like that out the garden.

Nice little co-dominant.

That looks like a reason to remove besides the argument for the pool /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Was the split and inside decay visible from outside? (open wound tissue so a prick iron could be used to get an idea of the inside decay?)

Shra, there was some metal in there so we used our new magnetic suspension device to elevate the trunk for easier cutting of the log. /forum/images/graemlins/w_b.gif

Hey SAWDUST,

Do you guys use a loader for the wood? I see in those pics the logs are cut into small pieces. That has to take a long time and kill your back.

Keep in mind that this guy is probably the worst of the group I sub for, or close to it. Also, yes Mark it gets a little annoying, you can only say so much. He also bought a bunch of hardhats for his crew after I dropped one on a guy. Call me a dick, but I hit that guy on purpose after about 2-3 months of telling him when a saw starts...blah blah blah. It was a small limb that did hurt a bit, but he got the message and his boss did too. Those hardhats he bought are sitting in his garage and trucks. They lost that fear of getting hit somewhere down the road.
I mention stuff all the time. They do what they want to do. Not in my hands.

Which brings me to the "loader". He has 5 or 6 loaders. Their names are Nate, cheech, minor, edgar, eleno. I keep tellimg the boss to get something, anything. Most of his jobs usually can be arranged to have is trucks near by anyway. So tearing some grass up or ruts is not an issue. I tell his guys to so they can keep getting on their boss.

Most of the other guys are ok. I do not wear chaps at anytime. We are not governed and policed as much where I am. You won't see that much around here. I don't like them and doubt will ever wear them. By the way, I don't touch wood. I cut it and walk away from it. /forum/images/graemlins/pokinit.gif I'll help by throwing it closer to the pile....

Later
