I do not wear chaps at anytime. I don't like them and doubt will ever wear them. By the way, I don't touch wood. I cut it and walk away from it.

one day you won't walk away....you'll hop! it only takes one time to go wrong and then it doesn't matter that it went right a thousand times....

you're still legless. but hey it's your legs not mine!

What about liability for health, unemployment, income insurance? Its seems to me IF you have those insurances that they can hold payments after an accident. You didnt work save or the safest way to prevent physical damage. And knowing insurance companys they dont like to pay out if they can find a way.

I don't want to stand up for Sawdude but when I worked in the states last, chaps and chainsaw pants weren't required for climbers unless they were doing their cutting on the ground. So he is with in the letter of the law.

I have seen pics of Dutch climbers on this forum wearing chainsaw trousers but with high tech hikers - are boots required in the Netherlands?

If you are going to pick and choose what rules to follow, you can't be critical when others do the same.

Not being critical or looking for a fight /forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif Just bringing up a point. /forum/images/graemlins/ahhhhh.gif

btw - boots are required here but I am still a big fan of Nike Cindercones. /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif

Most companies I sub for are all good about wearing PPE.
I make it clear, even though they are not my employees, if they are working my landing zone they will be wearing a helmet, or I walk.
So far everyone wears one even the one who usually dont.

I couldnt live with myself if someone in my LZ was hurt because they took a blow to the head without a helmet, even if they werent my responsibilty, I would still feel responsible- hence, everyone wears one or Im gone!

Isnt it so that insurances have those small letters under the contract? If a safety messure is required on the floor why not also in high risk climbing? Using a sawpant doesnt make it harder to do so (maybe a bit warmer). Also if there is safety gear on the market, and those items are well known to the people, but not using them, you can be held partly responsible for the extra harm done in regard to a accident. I dont want me to cut me in my leg and the boss telling he wont pay out my paycheck because i didnt use my PPE. And certenly not a health care insurance trying to retrieve medical costs on me because i didnt use PPE. Its maybe all different here but thats how i look to it.

Safety boots are required. I know some climbers that will use "normal boots/hikers" when pruning with a handsaw. I always use heavy safety (saw)boots in work. Only rec.climbing with hikers.

As a foreman i have to be critical. You will never see me working without helmet, earcaps, eyeprotection, gloves, saw pants, safety (chainsaw)boots etc.

i dislike those who do and especcially when things go hurting they get whining...
