Tree Sevice of any kind.

He's Surley no competition to me it's the fact that there is more and more people claiming to be tree care professionals. We do this as true passion not to get rich. We get up day after day and do the job we love it's a hard and dangerous job but one we wouldn't trade for anything. I would love to go head head with any fly by night tree co. The real victim is the customer who gets pulled into thier bs. It's very competitive in my area with a lot of hacks your bidding against. I over come and grow steadily without any advertising by my knowledge, quality work, and true passion for what I do. I constantly go on estimates and either talk my self out of work by letting customers know they where mis informed by other non professional company's or by pruning a tree instead of the other company's recommendation to remove it. We do what we do because we have the knowledge, passion and desire to do the best for the industry and the customers that's what I sell.

Same BS here. Apparently just because you have some gear and equipment that makes you a professional! My 85 year old granny can go out and buy a bucket truck tomorrow and advertise tree service, or she can go buy an 880 with a 5' bar and stand beside a tree with it for her craigslist ad.... Tons of guys here are in it for all the wrong reasons, they thing they are gonna get rich and they milk every job for cash on top of their regular paycheque from their day jobs. They have old s#itty unsafe equipment, no PPE and they undercut like crazy. I see stubs, flush cuts, topped trees, destroyed lawns etc and its a shame. I told one guy this week that I wasn't even going to bother giving him a quote after he told me who he was getting another price from. I explained to him that we are a professional, full time company with all the proper equipment to do the job, liability insurance, workers comp, we are all certified arborists and we all have the mandatory safety certificates such as chainsaw operator cert, working at heights, elevated work platforms, WHMIS, safe operation of a brush chipper, CPR/first aid, traffic control etc. I said how is it fair that I bid against another "tree service" that doesn't have any of that stuff that is required by law and they do this part time on evenings and weekends for cash!! That sure got him thinking after I said that. I am tired of biting my tongue on stuff like that. Its just not fair and its a waste of my time to even bid it, of course I am going to be more money! There is some idiot advertising on "kijiji" which is like craigs list but Canadian, saying "professional arborist". There is pictures of him up a tree with no PPE on, another picture of him up in a man lift with a big log chained to the bottom of the basket lifting it over a fence and another picture of him standing there with a saw in one hand and a shot gun over his shoulder!! If I can find it I will post it up here. I think its time to start calling that magical 1-800 number for the Ministry of Labour, not to be a rat but maybe to save a life.....All these guys never get caught because they work after hours or weekends when the labour officers are all at home......

And you are exactly right that the real victim is the poor customer. I got called to a customer of mine last week and she said her trees were all turning brown and dropping leaves on these 4 ornamental trees beside her house. I go over and look and yep, they are! So after some investigating I find out her gardener sprayed all around the base of those trees about a week and a half to 2 weeks ago. I said what did he spray? She said I dunno! So of course he wants cash when he was done and the way he went. I know who it was and I know that clown doesn't have a pesticide applicator or landscape exterminator licence. This goes back to the old saying..."If you think hiring a professional is expensive, try hiring an amateur!"

Well he can't have insurance and nice equipment, or maybe he's a billionaire and wants to give back to everyone so he chose one of the hardest professions. It's frustrating to see these guys advertise and even get jobs, but at the end of the day we would have never got those jobs or wanted them.
