Tree of the year: UK

Jon lots of cities and states have programs; not sure about contests. I just looked at some of these: http://www.hickorync.gov/landscape/treasuredtrees/ttprogram.html

Hardly any old historic trees in the US to celebrate. We are edjerkated to fear decay, and mistaught that reduction cuts are not as good as removal cuts. Witness the Wye Oak--2 miles of cables, but no reduction cuts. Flop.

Sure would like to ungirdle that second one...cabling is not trusted in the UK (or Italy, etc.), so they butcher and use chastity belts instead.
Each society has myths and biases to overcome.
