Tree Inventory Database.

So, after searching for software to handle tree inventories I've come to discover that there really is nothing out there for the actual owner of the trees unless they are a municipality.

I've decided to commission a database to be built that anyone, homewoner, estate owner, HOA and even a treeco can use to keep track of the trees in thier care.

I have also decided to be thorough and do it right so this will be a fairly lengthy process but in the end it will be very useful and hopefully bullet proof.

I have now been more fully educated in the subject

and have been tasked with defining what sort of information we'd like to keep track of.

The data falls into several categories: critical, helpful and fluff.

So, I'd like to hear from you folks to find out what things we'd want to keep track of in a tree inventory and what thier importance are to you. If the importance bears explanation please do so.

For example I've already started with these:

<ul type="square">Critical Info:
[*]Customer info
[*]tree info to include tag numbers, species, description, location

Helpful info:
[*]service records
[/list]
Of course what sort of details of the type of info would we want to track, for example in the realm of service records?

I'm hoping to generate a brainstorm of ideas here so nothing is too obvious or too obscure to add to the list!

Hope to see lots of ideas appear

Rick,

I'll call you. We have actually been doing that in house down here since we have such a diversity of sites and very limited budget. We started back in the winter and have since stalled a bit with it thanks to politics. I may also have someone who could put it together for you also. Any chance you will be in Portland? He will be there and you could possibly meet up.

Hey Rick, I just tried to call a number that may or may not be yours. ..

I have been searching for something like this for some time. I'm volunteering at Warm Beach Camp doing all sorts of tree related work. One of the projects is a tree inventory to help us prioritize tree work and just to keep track of them generally. Being that it's a non profit, I've been approaching it from the angle of how can I do this and spend no money.

Finally I came across http://www.plantmapper.com/

I'm pretty sure it's going to work perfect. It is free... I contacted to admin trying to get him to set WBC up with a "group" to set our trees into their own set for ease of management, he replied said he would, and no follow through. So, that being said, I think the platform is good, and totally adaptable.

Tell me what you guys think... :)
