Hey all, I started a tree climbing show on Youtube. It will talk about news, events, announcements, and general tree climbing. Check it out and hope to have you subscribe. I will be adding give aways and contests in the future along with a second climber on it as well. Hope you all enjoy and add in to the conversations! Stay safe, climb safe!

Can you post a link? It just opens a vid in a tapatalk window. Keep up the good work. 411 vids are so valuable as a supplement to good hands on training.

You should definitely learn double rope before single rope. You can't single rope from the ground using short advances. So to effectively use srt you must have proficiency with a throwball. No company has time to wait till a new climber has a fifty foot shot minimum. So to get in a tree a new guy has to use an "alternate lanyard technique" to ascend. Then while ascending natural crotch to the top, the climber is able to slowly feel the changes in friction on the bark in a gradual manner. As they reach their tie in spot with assumingly the lowest friction they are now prepared to climb with that amount of speed on their hitch.

Whay do you say that stationary rope can't be rigged for short advances?

I'm sorry, I meant to say, you can't set your line ten feet off the ground, climb that ten feet then recrotch another ten feet and keep doing this until your at your primary suspension point... Unless you have the best ground man in the world who doesn't mind retying and untying your base tie a thousand times

Why couldn't you canopy anchor as you go then? Doesn't have to be fancy seeing how you will be untying it to reset it until you are at your wanted high point. No different then traditional Dbrt.

I couldn't justify the tying and untying of the bowline with Yosemite tie off as far as time goes and it doesn't even have to be ten feet, it could be a three foot advance. The ability to use the "alternate lanyard technique" to advance to the top of a tree is a huge advantage doubled rope has over srt

Hey Jem, I would say for short changeover style ascents the extra friction is not needed on the running bowline. Think in terms of length of time when setting your anchors, the minty redirect is a good example of this, great for short term but the releasability of it becomes suspect if applied to a lengthy working scenario. Hell, just crossroad a steely if you really want to save seconds that much.
There are many options for rigging, don't right something off if you only have 1 or 2 patterns in your mind.
