Traditional Foot Lock???

How many here traditional foot lock?

A few weeks ago I spent several days working for a friends tree co. I was amazed at how things have progressed on ascending gear........these guys use a Haas system.....with the addition of a rope wrench. I made my own haas system with
A pantin. I am having trouble just getting the system to work and adjusting to it.I was using a double handled acsender with a kroll backup on a single line and was proficient at foot locking. I do tree work several times a month and wonder if the new tech is worth the hassle. At the age of 52 more tree work (other than several times a month) is probably not in the future.

52..do you want to make it to 62...72?

Think of proper ergonomics as gently bending paper clips.

Sure...take the time and learn to use the new techniques. You'll be glad you did.

Does anyone want to revert back to using chainsaws without anti-vibe mounts and proper mufflers? Three strand rope? Carburetors?

When you get right down to it, the new tech is really simple. Yes, it takes a little time to get things dialed in, and to put a system together that's right for you. But it can really pay off big time in energy saved. It's great to give your core and upper body a good work out with the old stuff when you want to, but when you put a simple system together such as a rope wrench or Hitch Hiker and some kind of tether, coupled with a self advancing knee ascender and a foot ascender, you'll be amazed at the difference. You can find all kinds of great advice here on Treebuzz.

I don't regularly footlock but I practice it from time to time and always keep a foot locking prussik in my kit. It's good to know other techniques, even the basic ones such as closed systems. You never know when all you'll have is the basics and be expected to make something happen ( e.g. Aerial rescue). The thing about all the mechanical devices we use now is that they will break someday, and more than likely it'll be in the middle of a job when a replacement might not be readily available. Foot locking is just something you should have in your back pocket while you SRT all day.
