tower and transmission station work?

i just got offered a chance to work for and learn from a ohio man who has been doing this line of work for 30 something years and hes still a climber! anyway he says his line of work is called a steeplejack. who here has experience with this line of work and are their any tips you can pass along to me? hes paying for my EHAP training this week so i can start working right away before the years out. most of the jobs are radio transmission towers working along side of MECO maui electric company. thanks

500' Nick that's a way up there dude. Must be lonely. But someone's gotta do it. Treework seems a better vocation for sure.

I would say if it works into your schedual and doesnt get in the way of a long term plan you might have for building a tree business its worth it. You can draw on that to become a better rigger/climber.

For the most part it is quiet and serene, but thats all it has going for it.

If you are into family, friends, holidays, commitment, weekends, fresh groceries, not being an alcoholic, sleeping at home, pets, or anything that isnt cell tower related its likely a bad choice.

If you want to be a better climber or rigger start rock climbing. Great hobby vs. a soul sucking profession.
