Tom D. Banned from AS?

Are these rumors true? Am I behind the times/has this been going on for quite a while? I realize there Tom and Darin have their differences but I have not seen Tom's comments on AS for a while.

He's not been able to post as Tom Dunlap since on or about the 23rd of last month.

More information is in a thread there with the obvious title.

Oh yeah, and the place has been so much better without the man that started the climber's forums ideal, setting pace, standard and initiating a core group of participants that most of the rest have drawn from. Such actions giving, yet knew meaning to the phrase "It's a small world" /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (which until now has been a personal favorite!).

Yeah, it is a shame Darin seems to need the control. I am in agreement as Tom has helped me a few times (and many others) and I do not see the rhyme or reason why AS administrators are so uptight. They are just driving everyone away. This site will only grow due to the restrictions at AS.

How can Treebuzz be a bad word on AS but the Treehouse is not?

Over moderation kills a site, AS has alot of stupid rules and too many regulations, thats why we are here. On that note thanks to Tom and Mark for giving us this excellent site, and thanks to all the posters who help make it what it is.

I'd like to hang here. I see AS going down the tubes with the moderators that they have. No need to mention names we know who it is. As for Tom......great guy........really helped me out with my choice of a saddle ( the B'fly II ) at the TCI convention last year. Thanx again Tom!!!

Yup...it's true. I got banned at AS.

Here's the reason from my side, if you could get Darin to answer I think and trust that the two stories would be very similar.

Ever since John Sanborn posted a couple of notes on the ISA site in the spring of '01 I've been bugged by Darin's rule of not posting links to other green industry sites. This was before TB was even discusssed. The need to control the flow of internet discussion has always seemed a bit odd. Having some control on content is another issue. I got my hands slapped a long time ago about mentioning ISA, TCI or other sites. This silly game has gone on for a long time. Anyone who has seen the typographical gymnastics that have been developed knows that I have not been the only one who has tried to open up the back and forth flow.

A few weeks ago there was a post on AS by a person whose trees were damaged when a tree company took down some trees at her neighbor's house. I thought that it might be interesting to see how a "civilian" or someone from outside the arbo world found help on the two forums. I went to the email notification part of AS and invited them to post on TB. Well, I didn't realize that Darin must monitor the emails. At some level I guess that what I did could be interpreted as poaching. Anyway it's slice, that was the last straw for Darin. Such is life.

For the past week I was at TCIA Expo in Long Beach. Nick shared a room with me and told me about this thread. I have to say, what's been said in this thread feels nice. Over the years I've met some really great people on line and in person. This has made my life more full and given me many opportunities. Being able to learn and share by using a monitor and keyboard is simply amazing!

All the best!

Tom,

One would think that in this day in age of communication and information exchange that such a petty thing/rule would not exist. If persistant enough any person will find both sites, so IMO this is all idiotic.

Trying to keep the hoards from resisting dominate change, controlling the flow of information is vital.

I recall Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman.

It's more than irony that Littleton, Colorado is home to both AS, Columbine High School, and the creators of South Park. A wonderfully concocted mix of extremes that now protect the person with three homes and two Hummers from bankruptcy while the Reservist on "stop-loss" duty in Iraq with a kid home on chemotherapy enters permanent slavery to the credit industry.

P.T. Barnum and Jim and Tammy-Faye Baker all rolled into one...Darin and his Arbosite. I can hardly wait for the day Darin tries to pawn his "copywrited" words all authored by us for his personal fiscal gain. Goes around comes around.

It's okay Tom, association with a terrorist (i.e: Greenpeace membership) is a scarlet letter on your chest. The real terrorists are the ones who dictate what we'll be thinking. Proudly know that being banned from writing for a dictator is tantamount to heroism in hundreds of other countries. We're on a high here in America anxiously waiting for the outcome of Micheal Jackson's trial.

The further we exile our minds from the control of idiots, the more we can think about things...and that my friends leads to excellence.

Banned from AS is something to be proud of. I'm just waiting my turn, but I tend to scuttle a ship before it falls into enemy hands.

I just hope I never have to ban myself at my board.

That would be awkward! /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
