Very informative though... I never knew you stood on the client's left while cutting the right side of their hair!

[/ QUOTE ]
Blinky i've done that cut 100's of times before. Just because you've never stood on the left to cut the right doesn't mean it's dangerous.

It also saves time for the apprentice sweeping up the hair at the end.

Maybe you have done it before trevmcrev but I'll wager you moved your feet during the cuts. The video clearly states that you should NOT move your feet.

See, if you move your feet while cutting you lose your reference point and if that happens? Disaster is certain to follow... you could end up with a mullet, or worse... a skullet.... think about that. I HAVE a skullet, I know what I'm talking about.

Just because you got away with it a few times doesn't make you an expert.

Well... i should have seen it coming! Treebuzzers tried to warn me, but i thought i knew better. Today i tried the layed step cut for the 101st time but lost my footing. Next thing i know..this happened:

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

Damn trevmcrev! You look just like my partner in crime at summer camp back in '67.

But you should never admit that you made a mistake or overdid something... bad form, people will think you're intelligent and adaptive.

So Daniel, how the hell do you decide who's a weekend warrior and who's a badass 40 hours in the tree a week climber? Hmmm?

How the hell do you dismiss EVERYBODY else's experience and skill... except your own... which in my opinion could use some refinement.

The reason a groundie runs rope isn't JUST to keep the whole tree from failing. You rained debris all over that place. Some of it is expected but with that kind of a sudden strop you got maximum shatterage.

If nothing else it's a matter of style a professionalism. Your groundie need some training, period. If he's so sensitive that you tiptoe around him, what good is he?

I'll tell him exactly what I think, that's how I do my guys... how do they know if some thing's wrong unless I tell'em. You've hired a hard case, good for you, I admire that, I've worked with a few of those too. But he STILL needs to get a grip and learn how to take criticism because he can't learn if he doesn't.

If you're gonna post video, post professional stuff or take it back to AS. That groundie janking ropes looked like crap. I would've dog-cussed his if he did it more than once. And if he threatened me, I'd fire him.

Threats from people like that don't bother me. They're usually already in the CJ system so it's probably easy to get them off your back with a couple of phone calls... barring that, I always have the Browning handy.

Oh that's easy. First just look at the avatar- usually you can tell if someone is a good treeworker just by looking at thier picture! (looking at you cerviarborist)

After that, people are easilly dismissed if they went to college, work for an institution/municipality, and of course if they stoop to rescuing cats.

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

Gee Rob, I thought the santa avatar would enhance my image, You know, works at high angles on rooftops, etc. Hmmmm, since I'm already on the rooftop once a year, maybe I could step into the gutter cleaning arena. If only there was a quality video to show me how.

You guys... such comedians.

Ya know, BITD the truth was never near this funny. It was just the truth. Why is now that the truths in this world have all become hysterically funny train wrecks?

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

What good is the black belt if a 12 year old can get it?
But as far as Daniel changing careers. I think back to the climber I stopped and wished I could of filmed this summer. A pro because he's charging for his services but the yellow rope lanyard he'd have to tie to his carpentry pouch was the first clue. He was working down a large white spruce off a ladder and stubs. Every time he made a cut he would climb down and get his saw cutting it into 16" blocks. 3 full days I witnessed slaying that giant. That guy needs a new career.

I know, i know, but i thought there was 0% chance of failure with this technique. Maybe i should change careers, hang on, i've got an idea, maybe treework, now THAT looks easy! Lots of instructional videos on youtube too.
What could possibly go wrong as long as i follow what they say.

Nascar has a bunch of weekend warriors on the pit crews....dont discount someone because of the frequency for which they do it.

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

Frankly I think Daniel is pretty insecure about that weekend warrior thing... I think it hits a little close to home for him.

But I agree that people who do something as an avocation are often more competent than professionals.

Mark,
I have seen you climb in person, I've seen your videos and the pics of your rigging and equipment.. And I've read your posts.. It all adds up juts fine... When you have something to say about my videos, I AM going to give that some credibility, though of course we're not going to agree on everything..

Now when some self-proclained weekend warrior spouts some drivel about shock loading that clearly shows he doesn't understand the finer points of rigging trees, but wants to come on this forum, and act like he does, spouting off Dr D's name everytime he sees something that is beyond his experience, and then tells me I should change careers, ITS LIKE A JOKE...

And guys like you and Blinky, who are supposed to know what they are doing, go and prop up that kind of nonsense. Its garbage..

It's okay Daniel, I sympathize. Really.
It must be a real drag to wake up one morning to find that you are old, fat, and irrelevant. Even worse when everyone else already knew it.
My advise would be to go on your nearest internet forum and rail on the younger generation, ignore all genuine concerns for your safety, and just plain act like an . Also, try to be as condescending and self-important as possible.
There you go, good job.

I've now lost whatever little interest I had in your narcissistic posts.
Good luck.
I sincerely hope you never prove me right about you.

This guy is suppose to be the top gutter cleaning expert.

Nobody and I mean NO BODY does what he is doing. Amazing technique if I say so myself.

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

That is hilarious.. those are good finds..

On a serious note, safety line or not, I would never wear both straps using a backpack blower on a roof... With one strap, if you lose your balance, you can ditch the blower. With both straps on, if you go over, you'll be so top heavy, you're likely to land head first, where even a small drop is probably going to break your neck and result in death.

Re: today\'s job \"Step cut 3\"

That would depend on your level of agility. Someone operating in the highest percentile of skill, like Michael Jordan for instance, could easily ditch the blower with both straps.
