Today\'s drive-by removal

While out looking for bargains at garage sales we came across this job. The tree with the rigging in it is in the middle of the public street. The lane we were supposed to drive in was on the house side...where the ropes were laying. Out of respect for the guys ropes I stopped to let a car come through on the other side then drove through on the wrong side of the street.

This was too much to pass up. No one was around. I took a few pics from the street when the homeowner came out and gave me a friendly HI. That was my gambit to come onto his property.

I told him that I was an arbo. We chatted...I asked if the guy who was doing the work had insurance. I was told that he had a 'million dollars of coverage'. OK, but did he carry workers compensation incase someone got hurt. The HO didn't know...or seem to care.

My friend who was with me on the garage sale tour said that she didn't know what she was seeing but by just looking at the setup she was scared for the crew. She's never gone climbing with me so she doesn't have an understanding what she should be seeing. This proves that some things just look wrong that are wrong.

Take a look!

Re: Today\'s drive-by removal

Forget the "come-along", what the hell is going on in the background? I cant figure out the 2 stubs tied together rear left. And early leaf drop, or are those trees stone cold dead in the background?

Re: Today\'s drive-by removal

The HO is claiming oak wilt. This could be what killed the trees. Or, the drought here in central Texas. Whichever...the tree was dead as well as the 'ladder' tree. He said that he's going to live that one for now...HUH?!

At least they had a cone for traffic control. A sure sign of professionalism. As for tree work, I think they are a close second to James the Narc tree trimmer working the pines.

Re: Today\'s drive-by removal

No doubt!
I thought the same thing... there must be like $37 worth of yellow rope and two $19 pulleys. Hope nobody steals that gear.
They cleaned-up nice before Saturday... Must be like a $200 job, a high bidder.

Re: Today\'s drive-by removal

All my local competition has equipment like that. That's why I stay on Tree Buzz cause I'm not from Jersey or Chicago and the smaller/rural markets should be represented. That poly-pro rope is their reality and I have to meet or beat their price on removals and forget about proper pruning.

Re: Today\'s drive-by removal

I wish that I would have asked the HO how much he paid for the work. Also, who did the work.

When bad setup is obvious to some people, like my friend, why isn't it as obvious to HOs?! Are they blinded by small dollar signs?
