Did you climb the hollow one, or just fall it?

I climbed an SRT rope set in the adjacent, healthy cedar. Dumped the bottom 15'.

That thing was a horse shoe of solid wood at the butt.



The candelabra of a cedar in the rear was topped for a tv antennae, many years ago. The antenna is still there.

I will likely be back later in the summer, possibly taking it out, then.

Today I turned a big stump into a planter, was a bit of a pain, but for a special customer and my idea honestly. A series of deep perpendicular cuts, then borecuts to remove the 'cubes' in pieces was the best way I could come up to do it... open to suggestions if I ever do it again.

Either way, kind of a fun way to turn an eyesore into a feature. The bit of core-rot in the stump will act as a drain too, so it won't just hold rain and flood.

We used to make planters out of logs like that. We’d make the horizontal bore at the bottom at a slight angle so the water would drain out.

@DBH made a really cool one in an old Beech stump a year or two back. Pretty creative, and it looked really nice when I drove by. Maybes he has a few photos…

Taking some deadwood from a walnut with the Hook. Overtop of raised bed gardens and a wire. Snagged it in the crook of the branch, lifted it to snap it off, lowered it without dropping. We all get lucky sometimes eh

This is not where I wanted to have the crane. I had a lady come into my lane head on. I moved over about 6 to 8 inches to avoid hitting her head on and the soft shoulder pulled me into the ditch. The only thing hurt was one brake chamber. So glad I didn't end up on my side and didn't kill the lady.

I fully agree. On the other hand, she didn't stop and her carelessness has cost me thousands.

And on she goes blissfully ignorant of the fact that she’s still alive thanks to the kindness of others. We get that all the time here with the Bay Area people coming up to the mountains. They thrash around without a clue and survive on sheer luck and the kindness of others. “Rescued” a family once stuck in the snow on a back road in the woods, we just spent a few hours digging and pulling and got them on their way. The father acted like we just snatched them from imminent death. All he had to do was walk a half mile to the edge of the canyon and get cell service or walk another couple miles and hit a major highway but they chose to sit in their car and wait for the wolves to eat them.

Somewhat related but I think all driving tests need to require a whole other section dedicated to informing regular drivers about the difficulty of driving bigger rigs and how to drive around them. Glad you’re alright @Fivepoints.

We had a similar story last Friday, on a skinny little wet road. Unfortunately, the shoulder was not a field like that, it was a forest… The driver walked away, the truck had to be craned onto a trailer and is likely totaled.

Sorry, that chip body is going on the new chassis. I am keeping it! I’ll hook you up with the place that built it though, you won’t beat the price and they can do just about anything you want. It was built custom for us, my design.

Nope, just kept right on going. If they had stopped, their insurance would be liable for the damages. Since they did not, the odds we can find them are pretty much nonexistent, so we will be stuck paying.
