Today....

Went to do a drone rescue today, stuck about 100' up. It turned out the thing was hanging by a thread, and when I just barely touched the limb, the thing fell to the ground which was a big bummer. The ground is pretty 'soft' and thick duff so it seems mostly intact, but the customer will pick it up tomorrow and have to inspect it themselves to know for sure.

Maybe @moss can give you advice on how to coax it into a hangar for next time.
 
Seems like a fishing net on a pole for that kinda rescue.


I scooped a cat once like that. I was in very small wood; the cat was on the very top branch of a western redcedar. Half a cat was still on each side of the tiny trunk.
 
I thought the exact same thing after the fact, I just had no idea it would be so precarious when I went up to get it. I've rescued a number of things from trees before, literally every other one was tangled up pretty good so this was a first for me.
 
Who carries a fishing net in the truck?

You never know until you're there.

Can't get them all.




The cat owner or neighbor had the net when I needed it.


I've attached a wire basket to a pole for cat high in a willow, once.

Gotta get creative sometimes.
 
Picked up this bad boy today, my ideal chipper that I hope to keep for many years to come. Bandit 12XP, winch, 145hp gas engine. Looking forward to playing with it at my place in the coming weekend, I'll report back after a few days on the jobsite.

Congrats. That thing will be a good money maker. Getting a decent sized chipper has been such a game changer for me and my business.

So, do you just shovel the chips out of the van then when you’re done chipping?…;)
 
I took a little fall today in a cottonwood. Hit something higher than I was aiming for. Realized there was no way to isolate it for a canopy anchor, so I set it as a base anchor. Knew it wasn't ideal, but didn't think it would break. Thought for sure I could climb up to it and change it over. I rope walked up about 40 ft and then, it snapped. Slid down about 4ft into a bigger crotch, but I swear I fell at least 8 ft... and I guess it was, since I fell 4ft on the back side and 4 ft on the front side.... Answered the age old question that I've had: "if you suddenly fell, would you yell or cry out on the way down?" Answer for me is No, it happens way too fast for that. Cut up both my hands and scraped up the whole underside of my right arm, but nothing more serious, other than a wake up call. First time in 15 years. Major failure of judgement on my part. I know that branch would have held on many other trees, but not on a cottonwood. Piss poor. I can do better. Lessons learned...

Seemed like my wrench and hitch took the impact, foot and knee ascender didn't do any damage that I noticed, but now that you mention it I should really re-inspect my rope. Thanks man
