Today....

He was my silviculture teacher, great class. I think that is femelshlag (sp??). Another neat one from that part of the world is the bullseye system, can’t remember the Bavarian name. It’s where you log the center of the area, then subsequent yrs log the next ring, all utilizing the same main rd(s), premise being you don’t have machinery on the cut patch for the rest of a whole cycle vs mult cuts in a shelterwood or basic thin.

Now THAT is cool. Sometimes I feel I’d more enjoy Silva vs. Arbor, but I don’t know. Sap for blood. Wood for brains over here…

Good one! White Pines are still a tree I love, but no way when they’re included like that at the base or elsewhere above former weevil damage. Smash downs are cool, too, but I sometimes still have a tough time with that feeling and I find myself trying to minimize damage at my own expense even if the client doesnt care. Happy to damage ALL grass though!
Don't move south then Eric, people down here love their grass more than trees. "Oh I want this tree cut because I can't get any grass ti grow!"

In the end, grass photosynthesizes too, so it’s not all bad. But I will say in all honesty, the most beautiful and healthy grass I’ve ever seen has always been beneath the shade of a healthy tree.

Looked at this broken mess in the morning. Nothing too hard, but the customer wants to get logs downhill to the road for milling, which will be a fun puzzle. Then in the afternoon, worked for an artist customer who gave me a tip of this art print of hers, which is cool because its a similar view to that of my property where I'm building the new shop and house.
