Today....

Removed a sickly Norway Maple yesterday and had to finish the cleanup in a crazy storm. I got soaked and on the way to the transfer station I came across probably 40 trees down. In the road, on houses, everywhere. Ypsilanti, MI got hit pretty hard and currently on day #2 with no power here in Detroit. Here's my double base tie for this three-headed craptastic tree. Too pretty not to take a pic!!
A weeks back, we had a report for heavy rain showers by mid day. We got lost in work throughout a relatively beautiful morning. When the skies suddenly closed up and the deluge came, we were neck deep in chipping and cleanup. Had to finish.

It was raining so hard that when I got to the truck door to get in and drive away, I concluded that by the time I took off my raincoat, my shirt would be completely soaked anyway, so I just left it on and climbed in. Had to towel down the interior later.

…but what I also wanted to write before hitting the post button was:

I’m glad that you got through the aerial work safely before the weather hit. Probably not just for your sake but for that of the tree owner as well!

Still dealing with the aftermath of a derecho/tornados a few weeks back. I managed to actually take some pictures on this one. I apologize for the bad shots. I’m not the greatest photographer.

White Pine leader failed and landed in a Silver Maple in the neighbor’s yard. Rigged up with a DMM impact block and a Hobbes device (love that thang). Worked out pretty good considering the heat index made it to 111 today.

Nice rig! If a winch hasn't made life better for a tree worker, I don’t know what has.

Had so much fun yesterday working a big old Pecan in a super busy backyard. Not even close to enough room for a spider lift if one wanted to do it that way. The tree had been butchered pretty badly by the previous, allegedly certified arborist. The homeowner told us that the last guy wore spurs, and said it was the only safe way to do the job. They also didn't take anything off the side of the tree leaning over the neighbors house. The two year old cuts had clearly been made without any face or undercut, and the bark had peeled down many feet from each cut.
My buddy and I each did one half of the tree with the groundsmen switching back and forth between running his line while I tied up my next cut, and then mine while he tied off his next.

For years I've been meaning to climb this tree (center in the first photo), it's a ~100 foot tall quasi old-growth fir on the highest hill on the island, so water views in nearly every direction. A buddy of mine came up for a visit who used to work at the same tree company I did years ago, so we finally made it happen. It's an awesome tree, with absolutely massive downward swooping limbs and a twisted, almost flat top. Hopefully people can accept seeing two pros without helmets on a rec climb, just having fun ;) And yah, that throwline shot didn't go as planed, haha.

Behold! The flying spaghetti monster!!

I've always wanted to build myself a custom guitar cab also always wanted a hollowbody guitar I don't really play guitar more bass but like to doodle, I got the guitar last year. I finally had some time over the last month to build a cab with the speakers I've had since Jan just put the finishing touches on it today. I'm pretty happy with how it came out not perfect but it sounds great and looks nice and no one else has one.

Don’t know where this one may have come from, but years ago my good friend said “You know you’re old when you think semi-hollow body guitars are cool”. We laughed hard because we always thought they were cool! Nice work there. I’ve made one myself and know what’s involved.

The two slightly different drivers should make for some great tones after they’ve both broken in. Have fun with it!
