Tips for Transplanting a Canary Date Palm

Location
CA
I met an HO with a Date Palm that has Fusarium Wilt. He wants to remove it, and install a new one. I think the new one will wilt too once it's planted in the same ground the diseased tree was in. Any truth to that?

From http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pp139:

"Chlamydospores of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. canariensis can survive for long periods in the soil, and certainly will survive in any infected root mass left behind when a diseased palm is removed. Experimental and observational evidence has shown the potential for infecting palms, especially seedling palms, with this fungus via the root system. Therefore, it would not be prudent to plant a Canary Island date palm back into a site where Fusarium wilt had killed the previous palm(s). It is not known how far away from the potentially fungal-infested site one must move before it is safe to plant a Canary Island date palm, or other potentially susceptible Phoenix species."

That was 2 hours down the drain. I spent 2 hours researching options and prices to remove dig out this HO's Date Palm, install another Date Palm, and driving out to see the tree. The Digg Alert company asked me to mark the location, so they knew where I'd be digging. I marked the dead tree with a white X.

My phone just rang with the hot head blaring at me about the X on his dead tree. I'll be spending tomorrow trying to remove it.
