OK, forget the photo. Picture a eucalyptus with a bunch of ropes hanging out of it, that was pretty much what it looked like.
The competition was a lot of fun, and it ran pretty smoothly, thanks to some well organized folks on the judging team. We added to the set-up and ran a head to head event on Sunday following the Masters climbs.
Technically, our biggest challenge was getting base anchors which would hold to the trunk for running the belay systems. The trunk was very tapered at the base and slippery smooth.
Once running, the belay ran smoothly, without much problem of crossing lines, etc.
One thing we saw was some serious shows of determination, we didn't time anyone out that wanted to continue, and there were some long and painful ascents.
I'll try to get some photos up for reals, and I'll see if the photos had been posted on the official site. Rec climbers here have a amateur photographer sub-group, and so most of the events had a photographer in the trees all day. They had a photo competition of their own, and I'll see where those got posted too. Pretty cool
