After taking some flack for a recent post including what some thought was a marginal tie in point I thought this might be a good discussion.
We climb on rated equipment with strengths of 5400 pounds or 5000 pounds or more and then take everything and toss it in the tree around a branch with an unknown number. It's easy to look up engineering data for all of the different species and find the compression strength, tensile strength and other valuable information. When it comes to the strength of the union we are pretty much left to experience.
Do you have some tips on judging, setting and testing your anchor.
Consider every anchor questionable.
Bounce check your anchor right?

If you're climbing doubled rope or with a cinched anchor, take a moment to test it with a base anchor tie off. You have now checked it to twice the anticipated load. Get help from a friend and you have now tested it to 4 times the anticipated load. Don't go too crazy because you don't want to damage or weaken it.

I have some testing I would like to do if anybody wants to help. There is an area to be developed near me were trees that are going to be removed and some are already down. It would be great to document with photos and information the exact point and number at which various selected anchors fail. The rock exotica enforcer will be perfect for this.
