Back before that was edited from MS200, 361, 066 I almost posted that I agreed "with the list above". Am glad I didn't now!

I usually get chastised for saying it, but in my opinion it's wise to run saws with which you can share bars/chain. The reasons are several and should be obvious. All the mid-sized Stihls (up to 066/MS660) have the same mounts. I believe the Husky/Jonsered and Dolmar mid-sized saws share the same (different from Stihl) bar mount pattern.

Up until the MS361 replaced the 036/MS360 (don't know about the relationship between the MS441 and 044/MS440), all the "serious" Stihl mid-sized saws shared a common clutch cover, and one or two of three different-sized fluid tank screw caps, which was always handy in a pinch. (I believe their new "twist-lock" caps are all the same now.)

I'm only singling out Stihl because that's the line I use. I'm sure some of the others have good points along those lines, too.

I think the MS390 is a 60cc saw and the Husky 350 is a 50cc. The Stihl is notably heavier but in all likelihood would need to be carried less for the same work. They really are more "apples and oranges" than not.

I agree with you,
but I like the 372 better than the 361.

Besides 3X361's just crapped out at my job in the last 3 weeks. So I'm less inclined to like them right now.

I've never had a prob with my 372.

I still like the 361 just not in favour with it right now.

smiles.

Treesandsurf, you have a nice avatar, live in a scenic nice place (I think), so don't take this the wrong way.

390 is JUNK! And it's little brothers, 310 and 290= MORE JUNK! Those saws are for wannabe's. But you sound like a pro so ... get the good stuff.

I'd use 200,460,660

my dad has a husky 350. I wouldn't mind it if I only used a saw every once in a while, there isn't anything special about it....

maybe the husky 359 would be a better comparison.

ekka, that picture was taken from bayhill rd. where I grew up surfing in northern california... best waves on the planet in my opinion, but that's a different thread...

yes, I saw that the ms390 was a mid-range saw (maybe homeowner even) I bought it used from a forestry guy and have always used husqy's for bigger saws. Did get a chance to try out a buddy of mine's 460 magnum with 32" bar on a big bull pine takedown and it was sweet! Maybe when I'm out of school and can actually make some money I'll get one

the 660 seems a little underpowered with the 36" bar

Run full skip and keep the chain sharp. Always cuts well with that bar for me.

What size trees are you guys cutting? A 36" bar? My 066 came with a 28" but it's almost totally unused. I stuck a 25" on it (has better balance) and almost never come across trees larger than 48".

Before dropping cutters all the way down to full skip I'd try a loop of half skip.

An 066/ms 660 will pull a 36" bar in anything,no problems what so ever.If it won't cut,most likely it's a dull chain.

I have an 028 with 20" bar for small stuff, and then the muffler modded 361 with 25" bar, and now I have an 044 with 28" bar, that has really become helpful during all the big trees from the PNW storms.

I run full skip on everything.

The 066/660's here in the PNW are used by loggers for the BIG stuff. 36"+ bars, with full skip chain. We're talkin trees that are over 4 foot dbh.

The 084/088/880's don't usually come out until the REALLY BIG stuff is bein' cut.
