This really GRINDS MY GEARS

Got an email the other day asking for a quote on the removal and stumping of two manitoba maples in the rear yard. Thought to myself "Great, that's the perfect job for me to bid on. Got a email today from the Guy " I already hired someone" Thanks .. Then I look at what I sent him last " I can come this week or on the weekend".. Why even phone two people or more if you will go with the first person that shows up.. This really grinds MY GEARS!!

Happens alot to me and most times they do not let you know and you drive 1/2 an hour out of your way to knock on the door and the job has been done or they gave it to someone else.

I or anyone I know personally would not do this to a service.
It is rude and unacceptable.
I let them know that it is not the right thing to do.
Wasted time, wasted resources, wasted money etc etc.

Looked at a 80+ foot maple tonite, over open hydro, which is going to be shut off by hydro, over 3 backyards and CAMERON says' "Oh I was going to do it myself but....my wife doesn't want me to." " I would if it was in a open field but it's not." I said you could still get killed in a open field. He didn't say anything after that, nothing worth a pinch of coonshit anyways. FU(*^IN Preppy dildo's is what they are...

It's SOP in this biz.

I hate it too. I use to keep a list but found it did me more harm then it did them! These days it just rolls off of my back.

Oh forgot to mention that this tree is about 120 years young great shape and structure but they want to cut it down cuz CAM wants more sun in the pool they just put in under the tree. Gave a price but thinking I'm goin to pass just cuz of the fact of removal and Cam gets on my nerve. Only one left and it's growing impatient.

Happened to me near the end of June. Called for a quote on the 27th got there on the 29th and it was gone. Oh well, I don't control them and I wouldn't do it myself but in the end it is nothing to get twisted in knots about.

Like any business, objections need to be overcome. In our's that line, "I was going to do it myself but..." is a common one and one that needs a response that will help close the deal. How many of us just take the first thing out of a salesman's mouth as gospel? Oh and that's what you are the moment you walk on to an estimate.

Just realized i was being used by a realty company for estimates. Have given four and not gotten a single one. Then they call me again for another one! Are you serious? I guess they need three bids for every job. I feel played.

Once I figured out they were using this info for negotiations with no intention of having the work done I began having a bit of fun with it.

I'd reply with a huge list of questions which they would go crazy trying to answer. After they answered them I thanked them for thier hard work and said I'd be happy to take a look and prepare a sample estimate for $XXXX.XX, PREPAID!

Funny thing is they never get back to me...

Then to save time I started asking what was the reason for getting an estimate, will the work be done within the next few weeks or is the estimate being used for purchase/sale negotiations... For some reason I get no replies.

I will, however, start marketing level one hazard assessments for buyers and sellers...seems to be a market for it albeit not many yet willing to pay for it.

This has happened a lot of times to me before. I have gotten in the habit of calling 30 minutes before going to estimate and it has saved me a lot of time with people that get scheduled days before the appointment and have it done before the appointment.
