This is the Akimbo

Latest word I got back from Nate at RE:
"It's still in the cooker and we still don't have a solid date for releasing it yet" "I'm really hoping to have it ready to show off at this years TCIA Expo - but many factors could decidedly delay launching it then." "We aren't doing any pre-orders and haven't even established a pre-buy program with dealers yet because we just aren't at that phase yet."

So, don't hold your breath. But at least it's "in the cooker", I always love a good crock pot dinner - the extra time really blends the flavors.

What a fuckin joke.

They told me they are completely fine with Jamie making them still and selling them in the meantime (this was a few months ago).

How about it @JMerritt ?

Nate is trying to be conservative with the timeline. To the best of my knowledge RE is still on track for spring/summer release. Nothing has changed since tcia Ohio. The big variable that prevents us from having a solid release date is the certification process. That is outside our control and is uncharted territory for a device like the Akimbo. It may be a breeze or it may require a whole new category of certificate, we don't know yet. Believe me, I'm just as anxious as you all and so are the guys at RE.

Can it not be released as "fit for use" by the manufacturer without also complying with other countries and industries standards? Especially if those standards need time-consuming alterations.
This would get it out there without having to wait more years for everyone to come to an agreement.

Private individuals, presumably not European employers for professional use, would be able to get their hands on them, the world over, if they're released in the US.

People won't be left out in the cold.

True, but RE also has to think about their foreign distributors who would get left out. Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and that bridge never needs crossing

Good question. I was surprised to see the one sell through treebay recently (and tried to buy it.) I use mine everyday I climb. And I still really like the Hitch Hiker and Bulldog Bone. I just like the Akimbo more.

We are very fortunate to have so many exceptional tools at our disposal.
Those are my current two options as well. I just thought for the right price someone would let it go so I can judge for myself.
