This ever happen to anyone?

TimBr, I'm originally from PA and have been in the south since 2000. I would much rather deal with PA trees than trees here. Trees here are more massive it seems than northern counterparts and to process them for firewood is a bitch. We had a section of town hit by the March 3rd tornado and our crews have been hauling debris ever since. Right now our inert landfill has over 43,000 tons of debris being processed by 2 grinders and more coming in each day. We are expecting the cleanup to continue to august or September minimum. The biggest kick is that our county was not declared disaster due to the size of area affected so the city is footing the total bill. I guess no raises for a few years.
That sucks. Good luck to you and your city.

Totally agree, you look like a hack leaving shit on the curb. Sure I did that when I was a kid but not now. Also, if the town does take it, you still got rake up underneath the pile you left.

Wow. Thanks for that big-picture assessment of the damage in your area, and the size of the job that you have in front of you. It's amazing to me that you have those numbers at your fingertips. If I'm doing the math right, 43,000 tons is equal to 86 million pounds. That is a number I find hard to wrap my mind around. It is hard to believe the federal government does not view this as a disaster.

I don't know how, but I think I entirely missed this story going by in the news. The people there are fortunate to have you there helping with the cleanup. Please keep yourself safe during the long cleanup process. Downed trees seem like they can have a lot of unpredictable stresses on them, to me. Take care.

Tim

Response to OP, been pretty good last few years until today - I think this thread jinxed me...

Lucky the homeowner came out 2/3 way through job and said to me I’d underquoted and asked me to resubmit the quote (so I would come back)... some nice clients do exist!!

Not sure how you missed this in the news Tim. It was an f4 tornado that killed 23 here in ALABAMA and was on the ground for 70 miles. President Trump visited the hardest hit area here in ALABAMA. My county in GA only had about8 miles of mostly forested areas hit so that is why no FEMA declaration. All the other areas hit are under FEMA.

Send an email to Trump - you never know...

Most people here when asked to give a price, clean up and hauling/chipping is part of the price. Seemed silly to say $300 and not state from the beginning your were just stacking the brush for the city to pick up. That is taking advantage doesn't matter if other people do it in my opinion. When asked a question here I assume we are talking about legit tree service with proper license and insurance ETC not questionable practices. That's apple to oranges.

Wow you don't get that often. Or some that give you extra than what you quote was because they are happy with your work. One of my friend's quoted a trim job for a thousand and said the guy gave him an extra 300 or something because he was happy with the work.
