Thermashield prusik cord

Looking around to try out some new prusik cord. I've read about New england's thermashield prusik cord. Is it any good ? Have generally used polyester with mixed results and tried technora too. Still trying to find that magic cord ! /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ah-hah! Now I get it.

Have you tried/hear of buzzline? Vectran heat-sink core, with a technora/polyester cover. I think you can get it or HRC at Pacific Arborist Supply in vancouver BC

NER made up a new configuration for cord I heard. If I remember right it was supposed to be similar to HRC but with some different characteristics. I'll see if I can track down the source of the story.

Nick,
Thanks for that... I haven't seen it online anywhere, do you know of anyone who is selling it now?

I know Fresco sells it. I bought some from them at TCI Expo. They sell HRC also.

hey gareth,
ahh yes, the magic cord..

well, i've been using hrc with a locked & stitched brummel on both ends for a few months now and i have to say it rocks. i don't really think there is a magic cord, any more than there's a magic friction hitch, but hrc is hard to beat. i was using it a few weeks ago on an evil nasty soaking wet day (the kind where the huge fir i was in would have a fabulous view at the top if it wasn't soaking wet socked in greyblanketoverhead seattle december..) and as i descended it locked up on me so hard it took 2 hands to move my little 2wrap3braid vt. my only complaint so far - soaking wet ropes, though so what doesn't jam up? made me grumpy enough to finally splice up the beeline i got in nashville and try it out though. i seem to have glazed it in the first few days - which was my experience with technora so it makes sense to hear the cover is the same fiber. back to hrc for me!

stay dry up there! (ya right..)
k.

Thanks for your reply Kathy and every one else. I think i'll give hrc a try. As for the rain........well you kinda just got to ignore it right ! It's nice to know there are other people out there who battle it out in the rain too.

What do you mean you "glazed" the technora. Glazing is melting, and these fibers; Technora, vectran, PBO/Zylon, etc do not melt. They go straight to char.

Maybe the fibers were compressed, looked shiny, and you thought it was glazing? Sometimes if you massage/work the seemingly glazed rope in your hand, it will UNglaze, something that polyester/nylon CAN'T do.

Did you splice the core, then stitch the cover over it? Pictures? I have one that I spliced the cover only...(shhhhhh, not "as per manufacturers suggestions!)
