Terex xt55 bouncing in cradle

First I'll introduce myself since I am a new member here, names Tom and I'm out of Cincinnati, OH. So I recently bought a newer bucket truck, chip box and all the storage boxes you could dream of. Love the truck after I worked out all the kinks that the dealer was too cheap to deal with...that's another story. Anyhow my question is during road travel the lower boom bounces around in the cradle on top of the chip box. Upper boom is strapped down but no place for lower boom tie down so we have been using a ratchet strap to secure. I have ran Altec's and have not had this problem. Anyone have similar issue or any advice?

With ours, once we rest it in the cradle, (same with the upper) we give each an extra nudge with the controls to assure they're set down properly. Sometimes just getting your body weight out of the bucket will cause it to lift a little. Anyways, other than that I got nothing. Maybe make a lower boom strap mount too? A bouncing boom is no good.

Oh yeah, welcome to the site Tom!

One other thought; is it possible the cradle is cracked or sitting lower than it's supposed to? Maybe the lower boom is at its limit and you just need another inch of height in the cradle?

Cradles not cracked but I thought I remember seeing padding in other cradles? This has none and when it sets down it touches a little tab sensor and it stops it short from setting down completely (maybe 1/2"). I will occasionally bend the tab down and it will sit all the way but still seems to bounce around. First down time I get I will weld some hooks or rings on the box for a more permanent tie down and maybe DAP a piece of padding in there to see if that solves the problem.

I'm sure other bucket pros might chime in.

No padding or tab in my cradle (HiRanger xt55). Just a square shaped steel cradle for it to set in. But even if the frame the cradle is welded to had a slight dip in it, causing the cradle to be lower than the proper height, it might create the same problem you're experiencing. Unimpeded, I don't think my lower boom can go down any further than the cradle but I'm not sure. Worth a try i guess. Keep us updated if you will. Thanks.

33000 Is the recommended GVW for the 60/70 elevator units. Terex's specs for the xt55 say GVWR at 26000 and a recommended chassis weight of 19000 for stability. My truck could be registered up to 37000. So don't think that is the issue. The other day I tried what a previous buzzer said (set the boom down and get your body weight out of the bucket and fold the booms again) it actually seemed to help, still a little chatter going down the road on bumps but I think a thin rubber pad in the cradle will eliminate this.

I think some 1/2" to 1" thick adhesive backed padding in the lower boom cradle will take care of you. Might have to be a sacrificial piece that needs replacement from time to time. Good luck.

Better that the boom being the sacrificial piece. Thanks for the advice, I could really see the boom flex down that extra inch or two without my weight in the bucket.
