Tcia accreditation

We did it a couple years ago. It was very different from what I thought it would be. The process was not that difficult. Mostly about getting your paper work to match up with tcias. I found the ctsp process to be the strangest part. In my opinion it is not really a tree cert. It is more like a training/ teaching cert. I showed up for the class expecting some more tree work related material. It was mostly a kind of teaching adults training course. Interesting stuff, but unexpected. That being said, I have always found it better to get as many certs as possible. Always better to talk smack about it after u already have it. Just my 2 cents. Interested to see what other people think.

Im just curious if its cost effective and does it really do the things they say it will for your business.

I guess im just tired of spending money on stuff that really doesn't pay off.

Sherwood, It sounds like you are talking about becoming a CTSP here. Maybe not...

I have also been kicking this can down the road for about a year and a half now and I posted a similar question here about 6 months ago. From what I can tell talking with TCIA reps and people here, It will force you to operate your business in a more efficient way; holds you accountable to a clean operation behind the desk and a safe operation in the field. I didn't go to college and I feel like this process would be similar to getting all the college business information I missed and osha at the same time and I think I would come out better for it. Just haven't been able to push "go"

Contact TCIA and they will ship you tons of helpful information without pressuring and nagging you.

Interested to hear more and your thoughts after you hash it out...

I was kind of referring to the whole process. I got my ctsp when my company got accredited. You need at least one( maybe more?) ctsp on staff to get accredited. We we already a large company with good systems in place for paperwork, training etc.. May be of more use to a smaller company who doesn't have all of those systems in place yet.

I'm also interested in the insurance. I received no breaks. Didnt switch to arbor max though. I have not heard of any bids in my area open only to accredited companies. I called the only accredited company around here and the owner said its not a money maker but it makes you a better company. He was really wanting me to do it to increase awareness and give his more validity. No one around here knows what it is (hardly know what an arborist is) so without some major internal benefits, its just a pricey sticker.

I've had the same experience as Michael. Obtaining the CTSP and moving both liability and comp to ArborMax has saved us about 12% overall. As for the TCIA accreditation- I felt there was not enough benefit for my situation, better said, not a good enough ROI. If we were in a market like many on the east and west coast, where only accredited businesses are bidding it would have been a greater value. Sounds like Tennarbor and I have similar markets. Less Arborists, more tree guys. There’s a lot of work and scrutiny from TCIA that comes before and going forward too. Hard to quantify the cost of that.

Michael

How did you wrangle that? Is that a discount on your company liability insurance? Health insurance? Worker's comp? Etc.

Can you share the details.

If you are insured with Abormax having the CTSP will bring down your WC rate like 12-15%. This is a huge savings and definitely worth pursuing.
