This is exactly why I cringe when watching these videos.. I hear all this jabbering about what the plan is and what to expect. The. When the plan is executed it doesn’t go to plan. The butt shot back 5’ blah blah.. never once did I hear “we are going to do it with a wide face to get the tips to fall short to get the butt to behave unpredictability while I’m standing in this crotch with nowhere to go.”

Right up there with Human.. both y’all should collect that stroked ego juice and make some puppies

Funny you should mention the butt of the top ending up 5-10' behind the tree. Another highly unpredictable, very dangerous cut . Whether it was Daniels intention to do so or not, who fucking cares. Seen guys get seriously hurt, and very expensive shit get smashed because some idiot was doing something similar. Was gonna bring it up during my last post, but figured why bother.

It was all intentional...
You need to watch that video again, because that is exactly what I said was the plan on the first cut, when I was roped into the second lead, then when i was on a the second lead, I said I wouldn't want to cut a wide face there because I had nowhere to go...

Clearly the wide face was an intentional way of shortening the fall.. and zero danger to me or anything else.. once again.. you guys got nothing!

Just watched again... You didn't say squat until after the fact. Just a lot of blah blah about needing to go up to 15' to make it fit in your 45' drop zone, how the tips might slap the deck blah blah... Only after the but shot back did you mention why it did, like you were surprised and out of breath from all that heavy lifting.

I do have the Slabber attachment, and it is killer!
My Lucas Mill is the 10/30 model.

I know a fella who was high stumping a 70-80 ft Fir spar from about 15-20 ft. Much like Daniel, he made a lazy fucked up cut, and it came down tip hard. Needless the say the butt came back and rolled across his hip, fucking him up pretty good. He's a real good logger, but his climbing days ended that moment.

That is not tree work. That is gardening! Nonetheless, he somehow managed to hit every object in sight (rail, house, window, pipe, and the HVAC system), cause thats how he rolls. World class laziness, and utter disrespect for the client/homeowner if you ask me. I won't mention the dull saws, multiple pinched bars, and complete lack of finesse with a chainsaw.

PS - For the love of god and everything thats holy, please learn how to sharpen your saws Daniel. If not I might be forced to sic the Chainsaw Humane Society on ya'.
 
Lord knows I have my fuckups from time to time, but they are never due to laziness.
Its a pretty tough crowd around here, so I certainly ain't making a bloopers video for you fellas anytime too soon. My fragile little ego couldn't handle it!
 
My favorite when chunking down wood small is the samurai slash cut. Ofcourse i like to keep my chain sharper than a factory edge... No brainer
