Tachyon

I'm getting ready to buy some new rope and I'm thinking of getting 200', where do you find this rope? Sherill doesn't seem to carry it. Nor does Bailey's.

R&T,
Must just be the splicer's choice...

Nope, it's the climber's choice! I always ask what people want because I know it makes a huge difference in how you set up your climbing system.

Who ever spliced it would've been glad to put a tight eye if you asked, I'm sure.

When I ordered, it was pre-spliced. Didn't bother to ask what type of splice I just assumed (my bad) it was a tight eye. I didn't think they still made the big floppy ones. Man...I gotta learn how to splice.

you could whip the large eye to tighten it up

try a castrating band, they work well too (it may seem familiar)

Excellent idea Zac. I think I'll do something like that. Where did you get your castration stuff? That could have saved me some $ before I got my dog neutered

It's the same as the blue bandit that sherrill sells, except I think I paid $7... Check at a farm supply store.

There was an old set of bigshot rubbers laying around so I cut them up. The little green rubberbands in the picture tend to roll down a biner more than the BS rubber tube.

I saw Tachyon when Mark C. was here for the IAA conf. & i was sold on it! Who's got it in stock?

[/ QUOTE ]

I was going to say that that was me, Mark A., at the IAA conference. Then I realized you probably meant the Illinois Arborist Association conference. I was at the Indiana Arborist Association conference and had a hank of Tachyon.

Tachyon has a good, firm hand. It is slightly stiffer than other 11mm-ish arborist lines. Knots have to be tied, dressed, and firmly set. Works well with all of the split tails that I have tried so far, although, as with all rope/split tail combos, the friction hitch may need to be tweaked by changing the wraps, twists, braids, or crosses. Also works well with ascenders. Haven't tried it yet with devices that bend the rope (eg. Gri-Gri).

I think Sherrill has it.

It runs through a GriGri very nicely. Better than Fly which seems to fatten up a little in a GriGri
