T540 xp

We got ours; I give it a qualified thumbs up. It's acting a little finicky at times and being hard to start, I think we may need to bring it in to get it checked (though if there's a problem with the autotune I don't know what they can do in the shop here). However, most of the time, it's running great; it has a lot of torque and tears into wood. Great balance and feel, too.

Tip for starting : don't touch the gastrottle and if you do it won't start ;-)

Best thing when its cooled a bit down is to pull the choke on and of so you got it set on start gas and then without touching the gastrottle pull it and it will start nice. Same goes for the other autotune saws.

All the stihl ms200 and ms201 arbs like to push the gastrottle a little when starting up.....with this saw touching the trottle while starting up will make it start even worse or not at all.

Mine should be coming today!! For those of you that already have the saw, did you "set" the autotune? The manual says that I need to sink it into wood at high rpms for 3-5 minutes. Wow, that seems a bit harsh for a new saw. Any help with the start-up/break-in would be helpful.

Just use it as if its a saw thats been used for quite some time, no need to run it in, it sets every time it has a certain amount if high and lov revs for a period of time. Cant remember the exact data but that doesnt mind no infi you need to know to use it better. Just keep in mind that it needs to eat some big wood every now and then keep the revs optimal.

When starting rev it up directly to the max and after that it ll run nice and sweet.

No worries and safe sawing ;-)

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that you would respond. It seems that you have had a hand in the development/testing of this saw...Thank You!!

Well, I carried my 338 into the local shop Friday hoping to get a little adjustment and go home... walked out with a 540.... I try to make purchases at the end of the year; defintely not barely into it as cash flow tends to be awful this time of year. This is one strong saw. I love the choice in grips and the stiff hook option is nice as well. Have only run it about an hour. Jump cuts this morning were a breeze. Restarting it at the chipper to make a few relief cuts in the freezing rain was not fun but looking back it's all good. Bottom line; glad I bought it... 650 out the door and she threw in a pack of the 2.6 oz bottles of husky fuel mix.

I ordered one.....and 2 years later it came in (couple months ago) I like it. Not sure if I like it much more than my old ms 200. For pruning they both sit and collect dust while the ms150tc gets the job (unless the tree is full of 8-10" deadwood)

So far having the saw for almost 3 months now, I am still very impressed with the saw. I think one of my favorite features is the fixed plastic loop, it allows for me to either clip in, or detach the saw from my cartitool with one hand, super slick. And it just tears through wood, great cutting ability.

Bought mine last week, made it through only one tank of gas before electronic carb broke.... got new carb fixed under warranty.. Great balance/ Lots of power. Thing even rips with a safety chain.

Dutch 295, check out Treestylers tips for starting above. If you do that....you won't have any starting problems.

Thanks Mike for reminding me of that... good to go. Treestyler, appreciate the info.

Concerning that MS 150 ... I worked with Cormac (man he can flat get it in a tree) a few days last summer in Raleigh ... saw him smoke about a 28" dbh poplar with nothing but that with a 12" bar. Took the stick down to about the 30 ft mark. When he came down we kidded with him about calling for a 20 and he just smiled and said something to the effect of getting in a zone. It's a cool little saw.

I have a new, in the box one for sale here on TreeBay....$575 and I pay shipping in the lower 48s. Everyone might want to give it a look. I won another saw and have no use for two.
