STUPID! YOU\'RE SO STUPID!
I am still having a hard time believing what I whitnessed yesterday. This guy who I work with from time to time is a moron. Too many idiotic things to go through, but this one just takes the cake.
His wife is pregnant with their first kid, due to give birth in about a month or so. He sells at MOST 10 cords of firewood a year, using a splitter he bought a couple of years ago... and it's PAID FOR. A beefy sucker from TC, not a little POS.
He told me about a week ago that he got a bunch of calls this winter from people wanting wood, but he had run out. Next year he wants to sell more, and feels that his problem is production, not supply. Meanwhile he wasn't even running the splitter 1 day a week. So he found a used Timberwolf TW2 with a bunch of options, used. He was going to try to talk the guy down to $3,800 cash. Asked me if I wanted to go for a ride to pick it up... well seeing as how I didn't have anything going on, I went with him. However I asked before we left... "Are you sure you want to spend all this money?" He said he was sure, otherwise he wouldn't be about to leave on a 3 1/2 hr ride each way to spend $4,600 on this thing. So on our way up he tells me that he intends to purchase wood this year... $500 per log truck full of unsplit, and uncut logs. He's gonna raise his rates on wood up to $190 per cord from $150 per cord this year. We get up there, get the splitter... he pays the guy $4,600 using his home equity line of credit. The seller couldn't provide a bill of sale, or any paper work (books, etc) stating that it was with the accountant and would be mailed down in a few days... this machine had a few problems with it too... something with the carb, and then the jack needs to be replaced. We started back, got some fuel... cost $100+ in fuel to get this thing, plus lunch, and BS stuff along the way. On the way back we got into a brief discussion about politics... that ended once the guy told me how Bush / Cheney have NOTHING to do with the current price of oil, and how it's all OPEC's fault. We got back, and I left in disbelief.
I mean the guy isn't a bad guy... but I just keep being amazed at some of the things he does. I sure hope his wife doesn't kill him for this, because while stupid... he does pay very well.
