Stumped

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
located in Virginia beach VA
Looks like a mulberry. Bleeds a gooey white sap like a mulberry but the wood feels wrong and the branch attachment is different. All the sucker growth was supe light weight but the wood was heavy as can be. I'm at a loss on this one.

If this helps. A neighbor has the same species of tree but it had this mushroom growth that I'm also having trouble getting the specific species of mushrooms. Looks like many but not exactly.

They could be some kind of oyster mushroom, which do like mulberry wood. Not to0 many trees secrete latex this far outside the tropics. There's fig, osage orange, mulberry, and paper mulberry. Any others?

Paulownia has a large open pith. The wood is light in weight and the pith chamber is 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter.

I looked up paulownia. It really doesn't look like it to me. The growth and structure of both trees are totally different from what the id fact sheet says. Are the buds wrong for paper mulberry?
