I hate storm work. It's hard on the people and the equipment. Long days, overtime, no time for regular maintenance, etc. I'm happy with just the THREAT of a storm to get people thinking about their trees.

As well I don't like all the over charging of clients that I hear about. Unless It's a call in the middle of the night/ week-end, same rates should be applied. Some of the crap reasons I hear why some guys charge more are terrible.

Screw storm work. Let me take care of existing clients and work a normal day. The hacks can have the storm work.

Just got a call from a storm hit city. They had two bids on a single 80' large branched spruce climber of $15,000 and $10,000. The most expensive spruce I've done is $1,800 and it was fat, tight, tall and branchy with everything rigged. I can justify time and a half for weekday storm work or double time for weekend or night, but a thousand an hour is what they call gouging and it's bad for all our reputations. Wish I was on holidays every time a storm hits my area. Although, I'd chew a spruce down like a beaver for $15,000.

agree! I enjoy storm work for the change in scenery, meeting new people and a chance to see different tree services operate.
