Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbsaw)

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

i honestly would take the 338 over the 200t. mainly because i like being different then everyone else. everyone out here runs morebark chippers and i run bandits. they run stihls, i run husqy's. they use buckets, i climb.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

Daniel likes doing it differently than everyone else.

I wouldn't want to have a truck with oval wheels and tires because others have round ones.

Merit based decisions lead more people to success than being contrary just for the point of being contrary leads to success. You will reap the positive and negative consequences of your actions and choices.

Its one thing to build a better mouse trap, and another to re-invent the wheel.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

nah it's just a coincidence that everyone here is contrary to my equipment. i have an echo 360t climb saw, husky 435,385xp, stihl ms361 and a newly rebuilt 3120xp with a 36 inch bar. yes i said 36". i prefer husqy's because i like how they preferm in the cut better then the stihls. your right though about not bassing things on being complete opposite, unless it doesn't matter. all the things i mentioned that i have which is opposite to what everyone else has doesn't matter. a saw cuts, a chipper chips. same purpose, same use, different brand names. thats all.

How long have you been in the tree industry, at 21 Y.O. and a business owner? Its just interesting that you have a chipper, but just got a top-handle saw.

Your examples are good reputable brands, so Bandit versus Morbark doesn't really matter much. Probably each has its perks and drawbacks. Ford versus Chevy doesn't matter nearly so much as Ford versus Yugo.

How is that 360T? My back up top-handle to my 192T is an old Echo CS-3400. It works but I only use it if I have to, such as when my 192T is with another employee in another tree at the same time. 192T has a shorter bar, but I'd rather chase a cut a bit than use my old, different model Echo. Maybe the newer models are way better.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

Never had coil issues, and i've run scads of 335/338's. Spark plug cover is now affixed with a screw.

My point is this, a 200T with the screen removed is about the same noise as a 338 with an added port, thus, it is effectively about the same amount of muffler restriction. Bone stock, a 200T is louder, meaning it has less restriction. Thus, the gain from removing the screen on the 200T is less than the gain from adding a port on the 338. And, why the 200T makes more power stock than the 338, and why the spec sheets are inaccurate.

Carb issues seem to be solved as well on the final iteration of the 338/2139. The only irritation is the need to choke a warm saw after its been shut off for as little as a couple minutes.

Rich Hoffman added another port to his 200T, which may or may not have made it cut faster. Fact is, the 200T has so much rpm and runs lean, that you risk lean seizure with just a muffler modded saw, which is capable of turning 16,000 rpm, or at least reduced engine life. Not an issue with the 338's which still turn at about 13,800 when ported.

Full woods porting won't accomplish anything with a clam sheel design saw like the 338, but will make a 200T scream Ed Heard did two for Craig Jabs. Great saws, but did they last? They were mighty fast, I know that..My saws are fast enough.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

my chipper is a shared machine. i bought it off my uncle who owns a landscaping company. i was a landscaper for him since i was 16 and have been climbing since i was 18. yes im verry new to the business but i feel lucky that i even have a chipper. i love my bandit 65! :) top handle saws were not really a big issue for me until i used one for a day on a job. it's like you'l never know how good something is until you actually try it.

That's a great story Joshua. Good for you. You have an early start in the business (as an alternate way of looking at it) and have a great resource here at TB that will help you build a longterm successful business, I hope. You sound like you are surely on your way.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

i muffler modded my 200t and will put it against any climbing saw: semi chisel chain and a 14" bar and hi flo air filter. the trick to modding a 200t is to limit the rpm and and put more fuel to it so it can make more torque. mine turns 14,500ish and puffs blue smoke with costal 40:1 mix and will out cut any climbing saw other climbing saw i've ever used: the old school poulans and mac 20's, the new jony, the husky 338 and 334, the 192 stihl, all the new echo's, even the old stand bye 020 stihl. its almost to fast

What is the concern with the picco chain? breakage?

Seems like cutting less wood by cutting a thinner kerf, would effectively make a more powerful saw without changing anything?

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

it dulls way to fast and it doesn't bore cut well. imho

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

Oh. I don't understand the mechanics of it. You cut much more hardwood, though. This may be an important factor. Heating up the lower mass chain more in harder wood.

As far as bore cutting, it is the difference of a low-kickback bar nose versus a fully round, or rounder bar nose that might come with the picco? I rarely need to bore cut with my top handle saw that has the picco. Maybe again, more hardwoods means more need to bore your backcuts to prevent BCs.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

nah, i bore cut alot more pruning to get proper branch collar cuts in tight crotches

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

yeah the pico might heat up to fast or the smaller, thinner chain takes a beating faster and the 325 chain last longer with 1/2 day touch up sharpening. all i know is the .325 is the way to go with the round nose and a 14" bar. imho
