Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbsaw)

im looking at finally getting my first climb saw but i dont have $500 to shell out on a MS200T or a 338T. i have been using a husqy 435(not the top handle) in the tree's and am starting to realize i need a top handle for comfort and mobility. my budget is under $350 or so. im looking at either the echo 360T or the stihl MS192. mostly gonna be used on tropical growing tree's like royal poinciana's and monkey pods and such. it needs to run a 16" bar. any suggestions?

in my opinion the 192 is a weak saw i don't think it would handle a 16" bar. heck the ones i've used were weak with a 14" bar. i've never used a 360t so i don't know how they cut but i would definitly not get a 192. for a 16" bar you really need a 338 or 200t or somthing like them.

I've run both. I own a 360T and I like it. Didn't have the cash to shell out for an MS200T either. The 360 doesn't have the power of a 200T, but more power than a 192. I have a 14" bar on my 360. Another selling feature for me was the Walbro carb on the Echo.

i think im gonna get the 360T and drill a 3/8-1/2" hole in the muffler. i muffler modded my husky 435 and it really does make a difference. im gonna probably set up the echo with 325. .50 semi chisel woodland pro 20 chains. they are by far the best i have used. infact i think the bar and chain combo's baileys sells are fantastic.

I would recommend you check out the Jonsered 2139t. It's a nice saw, reasonably priced, and can actually keep up with the 200t in terms of power. The Jony has 39cc compared to the 35cc of the 200t. There's also a 2135 I believe, I'm not sure of the power on those units though.

Don't confuse power with displacement..........
Jonsered 2139T is 39cc, 1.7hp, and 7.7lbs.
200T is 35.2cc, 2.1hp, and 7.9lbs
338XPT is 39cc 2.3hp, 7.7lbs

So the Husky makes more power, but loses some to the bar IMO. They always feel underpowered to me, Stihl makes the most power with the smallest engine, but weighs the most out of the 3. Jonsered makes the least power, with the biggest engine, same engine as the Husky which makes me think Husky might be fibbing their #'s a bit?

To the OP
Save your pennies and get a 200T, unless this is strictly for pruning, no removals. The stick with one of the 2 you mentioned or huskys small top handle saw the T435. Comes down to who's the closest dealer, and who has the best service, then which saw feels best in your hands.

Wrong, the 2139T is exactly the same saw as the 338, and is rated 2.3 hp. Though, stock, it is slower than the 200T. Ported, it is faster.

I am very sorry, I read the kW rating rather than HP.

Stock its slower than the 200T, but when its ported its faster than a what? Stock 200T or a ported 200T? Id be surprised if its faster than a ported 200T. And Im not surprised at all that a ported saw of similar power and displacemtn is fdaster than its stock competition.

Ill bet my buddies modded mustang built for 1/4 mile is faster than a stock camaro?

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

to be honest i think porting saws is a waste of time and money. if you think about it, it's only gonna save you like what..5 minuts or soo with eatch second less in the cut. muffler modding is all that needs to be done so it wont bog in the cut. if i need to pull a bigger bar i have a selection of my husky 435, stihl 361, and husky 385xpw

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

Sure it is. But you dont want to be tuning your H side carb higher aka leaner you will end up burner the saw up.

I've run some 200T stock over stock rpm limits by watching the plug for tune, NOT just how high it will turn. I have also ran woods ported 200T etc. I have had the 200T muffler apart and I seen what was enough.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

Bull, a muffler modded 2139 or 338, with an added 9/16th ID port, will be about the same noise as a 200T with the screen removed.

There is little to be gained by woods porting a clamshell designed saw like the 338. A ported 200T would be way fast. Ed Heard did a couple. But the saw, even in stock form, turns a lot of rpm, and runs hot. Easy to blow them up. I'd not want to run a ported one.

The 338 turns less rpm, but has more torque....the engines are bombproof. Great saws, and way cheaper.

Re: Stihl MS192 or Echo 360T anygood?(first climbs

I didn't realize we were comparing saws based on noise levels, I missed that rule further up in the thread. Got a link to where that rule was stated?

Compare apples to apples Roger. Woods ported Stock 200T vs. Stock 338XPT, Muff mod 200T vs. Muff mod 338XPT, Woods port 200T vs. Woods port 338XPT.

Who keeps coming out on top when the competition is fair?

I haven't ran a 338XPT that kept together, carb issues, spark plug cover falls off, bad coils, etc.
