stanley cup to non-NHL team?

Hey, hockey fans,

I saw an article the other day about a lawsuit to wrest the stanley cup from the idle NHL. Seems the original intent was that the cup go to the best team in the best hockey league (and the Canadians pushing the suit seemed annoyed that US teams ever got a shot at it, but that's another thread).

Since that NHL is currently not active, they want to award teh trophy to a team in another league. Being a we-ain't-never-seen-no-ice-rink Texan, I don't have any idea who the candidates are and I have little opinion on hockey in general, but I like seeing the corporate sportsworld called to the mat over their greedy backbiting spats.

What do you toothless skaters think of all this?

Might be a good eye opener for the Nhl. I wonder who owns the trophy officially? could it be awarded to the highest tier league champion ? what league would be highest? QMJHL? WHL? Collegiate?

This could be interesting, Could you imagine the liars, I mean lawyers mouths just waiting to get involved with this.

Maybe that would get those money grubbin idiots a wake up call. I recently became an hockey fan last year when I went to a Minnesota Wild game. I was looking forward to going to many more this year, but that never happened. So I have been enjoying watching the UW-Stevens Point hockey team, but it is definatly not as good as the NHL.

I am all for giving the Stanley Cup to the best team out there right now. Screw the money hungry jackoffs.
