srt systems

You can't get any more simple than one piece of gear that does ascending and descending like the Unicender.

No need for an ascender above the Uni either.

Also, if one wanted to use the Uni for DDRT, it is faster to change over than the R.W.

Jeff,

YOu're not a newbie to knowing about SRT.
What gear do you have that would work for SRT?
What systems are you considering?

Are you looking for an SRT ascent system then changing over to DdRT?

Right now I think that the Uni is THE most versatile SRT tool. There are few shortcomings and it can be used is soooo many configurations.

My intention is NOT to diminish the Rope Wrench. Don't polarize the discussion, I hope that I haven't.

This is a true statement. Clip one of these on your rope and climb.

I like the extra gadget you put on the unicender Dave,
that what I need to do with mine, really hate how the line gets out of it every time.

thanks I can easily do this at home and have lots of more fun with the uni.

Climb safe

If the same criteria for accepting DdRT tools/systems is applied to SRT tools/systems there shouldn't be any issues with the comps.

If these criteria were published then any issues could be solved before gear inspection.

I see your point, however with competitions it states that every mechanical device shall be backed up. That is not the case with Ddrt, as if your foot-locking with a prussik you don't back up the foot-lock prussik.
With SRT and the use of mechanical devises they must be backed up. I guess this is my question. Would the Frog system qualify as an accepted system, where each ascender is backing the other?? Or is there still a need for a friction hitch tied above the handled ascender??
Also, people who use the frog system at work, what are you using. Do you have any concerns about the device???

You should be fine. One ascender backs up the other. It is that rule that lets Chisholm use the system he does in the Masters.
