SRT/cambium saver question

It defeats one of the benefits of SRT, not having to isolate your climbing line.

If you where going to be climbing a THIN barked tree MAYBE use a cambium saver or FC. I have never seen significant abrasion just pulling an un-weighted line through a crotch.
But I live in Canada where the trees are tough!

yeah i know what your talking about, what i do is just ascend all the way lanyard in as if it was my climbing line then hang as i proceed to install FS and climbing line.

I guess if you go through the trouble of isolating the line and you're not quite in a crotch wouldn't you just run a bowline up there to go up SRT? Maybe even leave a long tail so you can retrieve the line for DdRT? Is that what we're getting at?

yeah I was just wondering if it would be an ok use of the cambium saver in that situation or if it would be in inproper use of the cambium saver and jeprodize my safety in some sort of way?

Are you using a tube type false crotch or ring on ring?

Either way...there isn't any SRT specific coniderations that I can think of. The rope does saw back and forth when using SRT. In thin barked trees or in the spring when the cambium has become formed and firm I use a FC.
