Splicing help for bailout and ultra tech

Has there been any up date from Samson on splicing info for this cord? I did like the look of the dutch hat that you did Brion I think the durability factor of this rope is high enough to make covering the eye's worth the time. Also I would like to say Thanks for the great video "Making your own eye splices" Like they say a picture is worth a 1000 words. You demystified the 16 strand splice for me. Have not tried a double braid yet. Thanks again Rob

Hi everyone,
I just realized that I never posted the results of the destruction test that Samson did for a Bailout splice...

Many thanks to the folks at Samson for running this test!

116% of published strength!? That's awesome!

Hi again,
I'm embarrassed to say that I still haven't made up some working friction hitches, even though I now have tow requests for sets of them. But I will. Really.
Meanwhile the matter of Samson printing instructions is ... tricky. As I said before, they still officially declare this stuff unspliceable, even though their own testing machine showed it to be a lot stronger than the knotted version. This might seem weird, but remember that, from Samson's perspective they just broke something some guy out there mailed in, and then pestered them into doing a test. That's why I've taken such pains to provide plenty of details, such that people who are already competent splicers can proceed with confidence. If you have some pull at Samson, maybe they could be convinced to make this an official splice...
Meanwhile there are two questions that need to be answered. One is, do you need the Dutch Hats. I suspect not, for most applications, and that they might only be worth the bother if you anticipate chafe and/or heavy UV on the uncovered core. The other is, will the tails I used make the rope too stiff to hold a friction hitch reliably. If it does, then we need to see more break tests, for the Brummeled-and-stub-buried option.
Fair leads,
Brion Toss

In my opinion, the dutch hats are not needed for this application. Beeline and HRC are similarly constructed ropes that are spliced with exposed eyes. They work great. The cords will get retired before UV degradation becomes an issue.

I believe the long tails will make the rope too stiff. A better option is a locked brummel and the shortest tail needed, so as to leave as much unaltered rope as possible.

Nick have you done any splices like that yet? How short did you do the tails? By the way the lanyard I did with Blaze turned out great. Thanks for the input.

Have recently tried the Tuck Bury splice instead of locked brummels which gives stronger results and is easier to milk the cover over, even though tight. Covered eyes with the cover whipped down on the side.

On the left is my first Class II splice, 10mm UltraTech, my covered eyes technique has improved some.
