Looking for advise.
I'm thinking of buying a new pair of climbing spikes. Maybe the the buckingham titaniam? I do much more pruning then removals so I don't use spikes daily or even weekly for that matter. Also I have always used tree gaffs, but am thinking of trying pole gaffs since rarely am I removing deeply furrow barked trees. Any preferences?

I'd buy geckos. They are lighter then the buck titanium and if I'm not mistaken they are a tad cheaper as well. I own geckos and I absolutly love them. If they got stolen today I'd own a new pair tomorrow.

geckos w/pole spikes here.

to each his/her own, i prefer the euros gaffs over any other gaff ive tried, although it did take a little getting used to but i can honestly say that i have never (knock on wood) gaffed out of the tree.

cam, how do those pole spikes handle ivy? ive always worried that they arent long enough to break through the ivy and into actual wood

Komet has these to offer. I have had them for almost a year now and they are great! the pair i own are the first pair ever lent on Demo in this country, so no updates/fixes/revamps to mine and they are bombproof!!

Link is broken, found a picture, its in French though!

There are so many different kinds out there today. Gecko or bashlin are good I still have stringer brooks but they went out so I cant get replacement gaffs so I guess it’s a matter of time for them,

Something else to think about; you mentioned using pole spikes what if you need longer spikes once and a while. I have a pair of buckingham climbers and bought an extra set of pole spikes that I can swap out with the longer ones when I climb a pole.

Geckos with pole spikes here. Even climbing mature Cottonwoods the pole spikes are plenty adequate. I dont see a need for anything longer, unless I were climbing a Redwood or something.

I did the euros for the longest time before sherril started selling the gaffs seperate. I use to hook out all the time, I would sharpen them an still the same. Sometimes my knees would hurt from trying to gaff in so hard so not to kick out. No problems with ivy or real nuggety bark. But like you said to each their own.
