Scrat, Thank you for that! i am now deffently going to play around with the swivel.

I see the idea with the little by-pass. Not sure if it will work for me in practice. I like to keep things as simple as possible. However re-leaving the right hand of some chores could prove to be beneficial.

Still wondering what to do with the old cams..

While we are at it. I am wondering in what situation you chose to use the SRT Rope Wrench over drt SJ and vice versa?

Had an after thought, anybody have a clue why the spiderjack does not come equipped with a swivel in the first place? The lock jack en the positioner have one.. Anybody try to fit one of them on a SJ?

Because the standing side of the line connects to the same carabiner as the base of the SJ, making a swivel unusable. A swivel on the bridge works nicely.

Most of it will be accessories. There's some threads on arbtalk if you google 'spiderjack mods' the first couple results talk about it.

Some posts mentioned Feb for the new mods to be available but nothing has popped up anywhere yet. Maybe the guys at TreeStuff might have an idea?

Seriously considering this purchase, have only one concern, the spiderjack appears to be a right handed type device. I know I saw someone chime in about this topic, sorry to you repeat it. Any left handed climbers out there use the spiderjack. When I climb I like my slack line to tail away to my left side. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: spiderjack 2

Put a tether on it and its really comfortable with both sides. Im strongly righty, yet actually find it almost more comfortable with my left hand. No issues with reaching the brake either, as I have small hands.

Received an email from Joe Harris about the Spiderjack. He stated the new parts to the SJ will be optional modifications and can be added to any generation of the device and there will be no change to the current model.

The youtube spiderjackery III video illustrates the new parts that can be changed, it's towards the end of the video.

You will be able to replace the velcro with an aluminum swivel and the bottom hand break will have a modified roller to help when descending if your tail line is deflected above you.

I have my finger resting on the frame, just itching to pull the trigger on this purchase. It just seems like you have to buy so many other things when you make the switch over.

You can absolutely run it with either hand, tail on either side, or down the middle. Only thing that I see as a weak point is when you choke a spar with a conventional 'Ring and Ring Friction saver' is with so little rope in the system it wants to pull the Velcro off the device, this is only when it is directly infront of you when chunking down. this looks to be resolved with the new accessories to be available soon.

Re: spiderjack 2

Running the Spiderjack with the left hand also has a bit to do with the shape of the carabiner. Any biner with a wide top that favors the major axis will leave a bit of interference on the left side. I find an ISC mighty mite works nicely (I think that's the name of it), but there's little room to leave the Spiderjack and eye splice on the biner while connecting/disconnecting from a ring or swivel. If the tether is more compact than the eye splice of rope, it allows much easier loading/unloading.
