Socks?

In Northern Winter what is ideal in regards to wearing socks in work boots?
Wool, without a doubt. I personally have a couple pair of WoolPower socks, which I love, but my father does not. He prefers old school thick wool, like a lot of guys around here.

I am however one of those odd people who works best when the temperature gets down to about 20°, so I may not be the best one to ask about cold-weather clothing... To me, that’s sweatshirt weather.

My feet at 52 are a strength. Fuck shoes I have hundreds of barefoot hours. I live on a tropical island. Years spent on beaches barefoot. I also have not worn underwear since puberty. I climb in pfanner globes without...so exilerating and liberating. Balls flying....loose.....
I'm glad those pants you sold the other day were brand new...

So harness pinching could be a life altering event?

I like the merino wool socks, too, but not the price. I also use the cheapo Walmart Dickies wool blend socks...nothing beats wool for keeping your feet warm even when wet, and for beating the stink. When wearing boots, I wear wool socks year-round now.

I got advice from a Hotshot years ago to use thick merino wool socks on the fire line. He was right, I’ve never had better luck with my feet since the switch. They also don’t get funky. Believe it or not, I can do a 14 day fire assignment with 2 pairs of socks and underwear, all merino wool. I alternate every day and rinse once or twice if I have the opportunity.

That makes packing the RedPack and making the 50# weight limit a lot easier.
