SMALL balance rigging

Ok so I played with it a little today and I have to say, the peices felt like they floated away smoother than they do when butt tied. I also almost killed myself in some footage that unfortunatly never made it but that peice was tip tied so it had nothing to do with balance rigging. lol

Its only 1:59 commmonnnnnn you can watch it

The couple of peices I rigged like this really gave me a better appreciation for Pats video and the technique in general.

Yeah, 1:59 to watch after 8 minutes of buffering, the interwebs are too slow!

I kind of see what you mean but still, I'm not persuaded by balance point rigging. A lot would depend on the location of your rigging anchor, I suppose. I guess I'm still a butt man.

One of the drawbacks of a midpoint tie from the climber's perspective is an increased lateral reach capable of hitting you if the load is not lowered on the first swing.

This would not be as true of a vertically oriented load.

I sort of mid/tip tied a doglegged piece once that very nearly took my head off when it whipped around... my groundy was slightly behind the curve on that one but I rarely tip tie since then... the sound of that piece gong by my face is unforgettable.

sometimes they remove them, sometimes they make you advertise, I dont know either Grover.
I have had quite a few pulled as well.

Thank you..
Now that's exactly what I AM talking about..
No need to near balance point the smaller stuff as it can just slowly rip down onto the line, nice and smooth with no shock. Then on the bigger stuff, the line doesn't need to be out too close to the balance point... just far enough to create a slow rotation, having enough counter balance on the butt end to keep the piece from slamming down into the rigging, as will happen when tied of near the cut..

Great illustration of the principle..

THANK YOU!

Jesse, ha ha, had to stop watching the 'pie eating battle royale' after about 1.00 min on account of the total weirdness of it, I think its the music that makes it weird. Who won anyway?

It is a little weird!
Everyone won that day.
My ex won extra points for eating off the floor and the dance...you missed the dance?!?!
My kid..little blondy won for endurance as she ate the rest of the pie when we were done.
The other little kid did a great job of getting pie up her nose and eating it.
I didnt get any pie.

LOL
Too much time on my hands
