SLEEP!!!

went to a doctor yesterday. She said that there is two types of sleep disorders- sleep apnia and insomnia ( most people have insomnia). Sleep apnia is whern you have interuption in your breathing while sleeping- wakes you up! People have different types of insomnia, some cant get to sleep and others fall asleep then have trouble staying that way. I fall into both categories- cant get to sleep some nites and vise- versa.
Anyways, she prescribed ambien for me. The difference between the sleep aids out there, is the duration you want to be sound asleep. Ambien is suppose to work for six hours and take affect in twenty minutes- so if you wake up in the middle of the night you can take it and still get some sleep.
Took one last night and slept like a baby! going to try to go to bed every night without taking it, but set a time that if I not asleep by then, take one. She said most people can usually lose any anxiety they have about getting to sleep and staying that way, because this stuff works fast and its there if you need it.
If this doesn't work, she said they would have me do a sleep study- go to a place where they hook you up to machines and sleep!!

Hello treewhisperer1,

Those snowcats look like awesome machines....goin uphill as if its down!!

What's it like to drive them....any fun??

Did you ever see any wildlife in the middle of the night during all those years of cruising the mtns??

I asked a bud of mine how it was going after his diagnosis of sleep apnia, and if he was on that breathing machine thingy. Here's what he wrote me...

"Yeah, I got the machine. It was weird at first but I am used to it now. I immediately noticed an amazing increase in energy and stamina in just a few short weeks. My memory is improving, the headaches I always got in the morning have disappeared, I piss a lot less at night (my kidneys are FINALLY resting) and I'm not nearly as big of a dick on a daily basis as I used to be.

Last week I met with my doctor about my condition. Since I'm not overweight he brought in a surgeon last week to discuss having a possible corrective surgery to resolve it. They offered to remove my tonsils and make other "alterations" to open my airways more but advised the recovery from said surgery was brutal and many people see a return in symptoms within a year.

Fock that, I'll stick with the machine. It even has a 12 volt plug for in the car or camping so I can go anywhere with it.

When I sleep I sound like Darth Vader. You fockers would laugh.

Thanks for asking, man."

Just a heads up from the 'Blaster.

Happily for me I can't relate-My wife is the one who difficulty falling asleep-and difficulty waking up at a regular time. SHe gets so mad at me-my hea djits the pillow and I'm gone. I spent so many years stayinh up as long as I could and then rolling out at the same time every morning that I fall asleep instantly--- but I have a hard time sleeping in when I would like to-the internal alarm goes off about 6:30.

Sleep is such a weird thing. A friend of mine said that the only time you know that you're asleep is when you wake up. Do you really know when you're asleep?

During the last half-year I did a lot of flying. Some of the flights were early so I had to be up before my normal awake time of 6-6:30. Many times I would go to sleep and then wake up no more than two minutes before the alarm. The spookiest experience was when I had to get up at 3:50 am. I don't think that I have ever gotten up that early. At 3:49 I opened my eyes and was focusing on the alarm clock as the radio kicked on. How does that happen??? I was rested and wide awake too. Astonishing because I didn't get to bed until about 11:15.

Yeah, its kind of like a $175,000 video game! But them some nights it was like mowing the lawn- Boring! especially when it hadn't snowed.
They are pretty fast, especially like the night when I was coming up over this head wall and the winch cable broke- sent me really quick sideways across the run and into the trees!!

I have never been one that needs a lot of sleep, unless I get too much liquid refreshment.About 6 hours is tops.My wife has sleep apnea, has a machine but doesn't use it.She can go like a race horse but can fall asleep at the drop of a hat.
I guess that some people need complete quite but not me.I slept above a 1000 hp diesel, when I was on the boats and can sleep through about any thing, but strange noises will awaken me.Go figure, hmm.I think my wife could sleep through an atomic bomb blast,or so it seems.

I wonder why I twitch in my sleep?? Hmmm....

My wife tells me I used to make like I was trying to start my 020 in my sleep and would curse and carry on as if it wouldn't start. Those damn AV's!! /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I can fall asleep in either a noisy or a quiet environment, but will usually be awakened when whichever condition changes to the other. I've always thought that was kind of strange.

What do you call it when you "do" things in your sleep? Things like travel better than a mile to find yourself trying to gain entry to a house you don't live at anymore (and which thankfully was empty). Then, when awakening, realizing what's going on but/by discovering your car isn't what brought you there; that you'd evidently walked?

TreeDR,

I twitch when I'm drifting off to sleep after a reall active day. I read that it has to do with muscles relaxing. Some of the twitches are a bit comical.

Glen,

What do you call it when you "do" things in your sleep?

I call that scary or forunate to be alive :) Have you ever considered getting one of the proximity alarms that parents can get to keep their kids from wandering away at the amusement park?

Anyone trim trees in their sleep?-meaning dream your doing it on a regular basis.
When I was a river guide, a bunch of us rented a house together, a one of the guys would yell paddle commands in his sleep. You'd wake up to him yelling for people to paddle harder. Maybe time for a new occupation or vacation!

Sometimes I'll get to work and be real tired. One of the guys will ask "Was it a late hockey game or yesterdays big job". I'll reply with neither, I was climbing all night too! Sometimes there's just no rest for us. /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hmmm, that explains a bit, Glen. /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sleep makes the world go round. It is when the muscles recharge and grow.

I sleep 8-9 hours a night with the occasional 10hrs. I climb daily and lift in the gym as well. That usually leaves me ready to sleep. If for some reason I don't get worn out by my day, sleeping is a PITA and then I am dead the next day.

Nobody said it, but just a little of some herbal remedies can really help and you get good restorative sleep.
