Skid Steer Attachment: T-Rex

I think this guy's attachment is awesome. There are some limitations for it's usage, but I saw this video and had some ideas.

Since I only have a 9" chipper, I haul away logs and dump them at my home. I have been at my property for 6.5 years and I have some large logs accumulating. I have been thinking of some cost effective ways to widdle down some of the logs (or pay a tub grinder every year).

So, even when I buy a 18" chipper, I think I found my solution for getting rid of large logs.

But this spurred on another idea for me. I bet some of you guys, who own skid steers, would find this useful. Because if you don't have a place to take large wood, you could split the logs down until it would fit into your chipper.

Or, those large logs can now be split into managable sizes to prep for firewood processing (if you sell firewood).

Could this be helpful to anyone here?

I think I found a break through for me at least.

I kinda liked it!!!! I would like to demo one and see how it did with some more gnarly stuff. It did seem like it was challenged to open wide enough for the larger pieces, but still broke them up.... It has potential!

Good observation Tom, though what else would you expect. You can pick the straight grained stuff to process with that puppy, and lose the rest.. Looks like fun, Wear and tear on the tires might be a concern for its cost effectiveness though.

I was thinking of going with an outdoor stove this year, but never did pull the trigger...

Did anyone catch a price tag?

Checked the price: $5250.00 a lot pricey.. from the look of it, with just one piston. I wonder if you could fab up soomething with some old chipper blades.. pretty simple system...

also after another look, its clear the producer has sped up the video, making the work appear much faster than it really was.. LISTEN to the skid steer... much too high..

I didn't see any of the chunks with knots or crotches. All of the samples seemed pretty straight grained. that makes for a deceptive demo.

2:00-2:30 looked like some sort of conifer. Especially at 2:30.

Inefficient waste of diesel and manpower. Better option. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsPXOxs__k0 I think moving the wood to a stationary processor would still be the best.

I agree.

At 2:35 it looks like that log is about 30"(+) diameter.

If he widdled the larger logs just to the size of what a firewood processor allows for, then it is wouldn't be as wasteful.
